My dad recently had excruciating abdominal back pain on the left hand side. It came and went and the consultants thought it could be a kidney stone. An IVP and an ultrasound were done at the same time, the ultrasound apparently showed a kidney stone but the IVP came up negative and the consultant said that he was sure it wasnt one. 3 days later and my dad complains that "he feels bruised inside". His blood pressure is normally controlled at around 130/80 but now after the episode his BP is constantly at around 160/100. He is on medication already for high blood pressure and arrythmia. Can anyone offer an explaination for the possible causes of either the pain or the high blood pressure at the moment? thank you...

I agree the kidney stone may have passed.

Single BP readings are not reliable, nor do good doctors respond precipitously to a few raised readings.

I suspect your GP has arranged further checks. The ideal method, though not available in all practices is to get a 24 hour BP monitor check. This has the advantage of giving a definitive mean reading allowing a decision to be made then and there.

I stress there is no hurry! The risk of raised BP is statistical rather than day to day.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

You're dad DEFINITELY has a kidney stone. Has he thought of undergoing lithotripsy? Cause I had that done to me in 2004--when I had mine. But the pain he is experiencing is only a side effect. Naturally, it will drive up his BP. But he should go see a urologist for his problem immediately.

It's not something he wants to keep experiencing.

Cause passing these things is a lot like giving BIRTH, and all he'll be doing is screaming in agony--if it decides to pass.

I know that kidney problems often show up with a high blood pressure symptom. Your dad needs to see his doctor with blood pressure that high. Don't let him procrastinate.
