This girl in my science class has just found out that she has genital herpes. Before she knew this I took a drink out of her water bottle. I now have had an outbreak of tiny white blisters on the inside of my mouth about the size of salt. I'm terrified that I have caught it. Could I?

Well first off, testing for any herpes virus (theres 8 of them that affect humans) is rare. They cross react with one another and virtually every poster on Yahoo has 1 or more herpes viruses. That makes testing near pointless. Anytime you go to the "clinic" to get checked, they never routinely test for any HHV. You can, however, ask for a test that insurance will not typically pay for.

Now to answer you question, Its impossible to accurately diagnose your symptoms on the internet. Go see a doctor if symptoms persist. Although its theoretically possible to transmit HSV1 or 2 from indirect contact, its unlikely. Even if you are infact infected, theres no way to determine whether or not you aquired it from this incident.

Yes, there isn't any. Herpes is caused by a virus. Actually, there is little cure for viruses nowadays. The only thing that you can generally do in the case of a viral infection is strengthen the immune system and hope it fights it off. Not with Herpes, the immune system can't win against it. Thus you only get to treat the symptoms. Once you're infected, it stays with you for life. So don't get infected.

Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years.

Herpes is usually developed on the genitals, on the lips or on the eyes. The blister(s) are very itchy and sensitive, sometimes with a numb feeling. It is passed through skin or fluid contact so sharing a bottle may pass it- although your friend has genital, not mouth herpes. It does not sound like you have herpes but it is very important that you check this with a doctor as you will be contagious if you have it. It is not something you play with, so have it checked now rather than later...

almost everyone has herpes. the virus is so common thats its just not a big deal......genital herpes are spread through fluids when having sex or some type of contact down there. now if she has them on her mouth then you might have them. but if you have white sores on your mouth then it sounds like you have herpes simplex its just cold sores and kanker sores.....not the sexually transmitted kind. Almost everyone has the kanker sore and cold sore type. You will always have it and certain things irritate it and make it come out.

i think if she has genital herpes its just genital. unless she gave head to someone who had genital herpes its unlikely you could get them from her water bottle. if she has cold sores on her mouth... that is a type of herpes... so you could get them on your mouth... and if someone has a cold sore and their mouth touches your genitals i believe, not positive, but i htink you can get genital herpes.. the only way to really know is to get tested at your gyno

go see a doc to be sure. dont drink or eat after other people. try washing your mouth with gasoline or diesel or charcoal lighter fluid not near an open flame or while smoking though. gasoline or diesel fuel will kill damn near any germ or fungus or what have you. good luck.
