There may be some herbal stuff. You will have to check with a place like GNC for advice on what though. Definitely NO salt or VERY VERY, SMALL amounts. Salt retains water in your body. Thdre is a lot of salt (ALSO known as sodium) in processed foods like hot dogs and lunchmeat and many canned foods. Check the labels for the amount. Avoid salty snacks like chips, etc. and cottage cheese is high too. Like I said, check the labels for the amount of sodium and use little as possible. DO keep legs elevated above heart aas much as possible. Support hose will help too. You can buy these w/ot a prescription, but if edema is very bad you will need a higher compression that what is obtainable without a script. Your Dr. can write a script for more compression if they think you need it. These are VERY expensive when you get into the higher compression. About $65-80 a pair. OTC ones are about $20 a pair. I would drink MORE water than anything else as this will flush your system better than anything else. Don't go overboard on this either. You are trying to eliminate water from your body. Drinking more is kind of defeating the purpose, don't you think. Replace other drinks with water. Coffee is a natural diuretic(makes you pee more), but I don't know as the addition of caffein is wise. Maybe try decaf.

Reduction in the amount of salt intake will also help with edema, as will elevation above heart-level of any affected limbs (if possible). Sodium causes water retention in general, so staying away from sodium-packed carbonated beverages will also help.
Also, caffeine is a diuretic, and as such is not something that will make you hold water. My docs aways tell me to drink green tea as well to help with the edema you're talking about.

Edema can be many places....but as a rule people are speaking of their feet and hands...For your feet try elevating them higher than your heart like in a recliner and on 2 pillows and for the hands and feet try laying off the salty food and table salt and drink lots of fluids but not soda or sports drinks....

Cut your salt intake, drink LOTS of water (not tea or soda, the caffeine will make you retain), lie down on your left side, if the problem is your legs or feet elevate them.
