I am having side effects such as shortness of breath, dizziness, and weakness. I have seen a respitory therapist and been told I may have asthma. What other medications should I consider talking to my cardiologist about. I know he will prescribe something else if he feels it is warranted, but I would like to know some additional options myself and be able to make an informed decision.

Are you taking this for High blood pressure? What strength? What else are you taking on a daily basis? What you are taking along with it, and the strength make a huge difference with this bp medication. My Mother was put on Metroprolol and had serious side affects. Known side affects are dry cough, fatigue, loss of appetite, and it should not be given to the elderly.

metaprolol for Hyrpertension is a good choice, it is more Beta 1 selective (cardica) and won't really interfere with your breathing (beta 2). Beta receptors are part of the sympathetic system which help your fight or flight. meaning that metaprolol will help lower the rate and contraction, while not decrease your ability to breath.
