For Health Reasons: Studies have shown that vegetarians have less incidence of heart disease and cancer. My wife and I have been vegetarians for over a year and never get sick with colds, etc like we did before. We also have lost alot of weight and feel healthier.
Global Warming Reduction: Studies have shown how much oil we use to grow crops to feed cattle. Also how much pesticides we use to grow animal feed.
Animal Welfare: It is humane if you have ever seen how animals are slaughtered and processed. Chickens are particularly not handled well.

I am a vegetarian because I am really happy to be one. I am not a vegetarian who tries to convince others to do so, even if I believe in respect to all living beings. But to be honest I think no one should do something if they do not want to or will suffer by it. I do it because I never wanted to eat it when I was a child and went veggie since early teens. It has been 10 years now. The only thing I can advice to a person who eats meat is that every time you eat meat, you do it responsibly. Thanking the animal for its sacrifice of feeding you, never trow meat away, because that would be as if the animal died for nothing and that I do feel is very sad. The important thing is respect one another, no meat eaters or grass eaters, just trying to be humans who live ethically without separatism and attacking one another because they think their believe is the right one. That's when all goes wrong. So as a conclusion, I am happy with my choice and I hope you are happy with yours.

There are some who make this choice because of religious or political reasons. Others like me, have made the choice to be vegan for nutritional reasons.
I did not wake up one day and just decide that eating a plant based diet seemed like a good idea. I'm a chef and highly interested in food and how it relates to health and disease.
Over the course of 12 years or so, my family and I have gradually come to the place of being vegan.
There is a wealth of sound medical research that proves a diet based on whole plants and not animals (meat and dairy) is the best way to stay energetic, slim, and avoid diseases of affluence.
We do not consume large amounts of added fats (deep fried foods or lots of foods cooked in oils) or processed foods (fake meats and other prepared vegetarian foods). This means we are getting a balanced and nutritious diet that has as much protein and other nutrients to keep the body fully functioning.
It really is a shame that our economy relies so heavily on certain industries that much effort has been made (and has been successful) to make us believe we cannot exist without eating meat. Take a look at other developed countries whose diet only consists of about 3% animal protein compared to the 35%-50% animal protein consumed in the US. You'll find their disease rates are much lower.
I hope this helps you find some of the understanding you're looking for.

My mother is a vegetarian so I grew up not eating meat. When I met my husband he was determined to have me eat meat. I have eaten meat before out of curiosity but I just don't like the taste. I never really thought in depth about the whole killing of the animals until the past few years. Once I did think about how if I'm eating a hamburger that I'm technically eating someone's kid ( a cow's kid of course, but it's a living thing nonetheless) I vowed never to eat meat or eggs again.

I have been a veggie for almost 15 years. I became one when farmers were shoving their animals full of steriods to make them bigger. I didn't want to eat that so I cut meat out of my diet. Since then, the government has put stricter laws on steriod use in animals. I could start eating meat again, but I have not eaten it for so long that my body rejects it and I get very ill. Now it is just easier to stay away from it. Travelling is a bit of a challenge sometimes, though.

When one is raised up on something it is hard getting use to eating a different way no matter what. Being and having tried the vegetarian way I do not feel full.

I love meat but some people think they are fat, some are athletic, some it's against there religion, and some just adore veggies. I think a vegetarian is someone who likes to be healthy or it's against there religion to eat meat. It all depends on the type of person that you are.

I am not in love with meat, and I don't die for it.
I cook great food with vegetable foods that may give same type of vitamins. But I think that it is good to have meat, for the sake of pure healthy bood. The end of the day, we are human beings.
I don't like red meat very much, but i do respect if others do.
I had a friend once, she was vegetarian for years, and she had so much weakness that she ended up nervous and unhealthy. Now she eats more meat than me!

because i hated the taste and texture of meat at a young age, and haven't eaten meat since because i would get physically ill if i tried to eat it again.
plus, i sometimes think it's healthier if you are a vegetarian (assuming you do it right and don't just eat junk food)
