Hi there, I am 19 and fairly healthy. For the last month, I have been suffering recurring symptoms of heaviness/tightness across my chest as well as an uncomfortable awareness of breathing. I don't whether it's anxiety related or something else. I have been known to become stressed and nervous easily since a young age, but this is the first time I have had any chest related symptoms.

Can anyone give any advice and should I consult my GP.

Also, the feeling of tightness across the chest seems to worsen when I am at rest and thinking about not a lot, while on the other hand when my mind is focused on something eg work it lessens.

You absolutely need to see your GP. Hopefully, it's simple anxiety, but you need to see your doctor to rule out heart and respiratory issues. Please do this ASAP. It's just too big a chance to take to let it continue.

You sound like my Son,he suffered with being so sensitive to his surroundings, like if someone was upset,or confused,
or arguing, screaming, fighting. He was raised around a lot
of that plus a lot of changes. His childhood was a hard one.
He didn't verbalize his feelings,he internalize. He in later years, medicated any way he could.Drinking alcohol or a
pill.Now he developed anxiety & depression.He is doing great now.No more smoking,drinking or pills.He went to a
Doctor that found he had high Cholestrol, high blood pressure.
She treated the Anxiety &depression, put him on a special diet. He's coping very well now.The tightness in the chest was
anixety.Fear of people or crowds ,stressful situations.
Go to a good Doctor and talk about all your feelings, and have Lab work done.Live life stress free and more Peaceful.
Get the stress test for the Heart done too.

Stress could do that. A cracked rib also. See the doc again and be insistent about your complaint. Is the pain constant or intermittent? He can recommend an Xray to rule out a rib problem. If everything comes up negative ... study up on stress. He can also prescribe a sedative. Half the world is on some kind of stress reduction medication. As the story goes...what goes on above the neck affects what goes on below the neck... medically it's called a physiological response to a psychological problem. Good luck to you.

I would seek medical advise from your gp or if it worsens during the night go to the hospital, it could be your heart or something less serious. Getting stressed up is not gonna help either way so getting a propa examination from a medical examiner would be the only way to obtain an accurate diagnosis.
PS, nobody on a forum could give you a definitive answer as you symptoms are to vague...

I have never known a case of angina in someone as young as yourself is it a pain in the centre of your chest you could describe as Crushing . Do see a doctor there paid enough .
Don't be shy if it is as bad as It could be you will only have to take a tablet to ease the pain

Good luck and GO TO THE DOCTOR

Yes, you should consult a GP. This could be any number of things, most probably the less serious reasons. Stress can cause this, I have had similar in the past, but you are better talking to a GP who will be able to refer you for tests if necessary.

You should definatly goto your GP

I'm 25, not overweight, but not really very active.

I was having chest pains and things which seem to have gone on their own, but it did last for about 6 months! I've been having ECG's and getting a heart monitor put on Friday to see how things are.

Best thing to do, don't think the worse, see your doctor and try to relax :)

For your addition - exactly, sounds like anxiety and worry to me mate, i havn't had any pains for a while, but as soon as I realise I havn't, i seem to get them, doesnt sound like anything serious, but still get to the GP to make sure

Hi,
This is a natural program that you can try to cure your acid reflux http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=568

Acid reflux disease, also known as gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD), occurs due to the coexistence of several medical and lifestyle conditions. Physiological factors that trigger GERD include lower esophageal sphincter (LES) hypotonia (the gradual weakening of the LES), along with retrograde flow of stomach contents into the esophagus, and the level of sensitivity of the esophageal mucus to the reflux content.
I hope it helps

Get the hell off the computer and Yahoo answers and get to your Doctor. It could be anything, but sure as hell do not take any chances. I'm 38, and I saw a 17 year old football player in 1984 when I was a sophomore in high school collapse and die on on the football fied DURING a game. Don't F around any longer, get yourself checked out. Peace and much love...
