hello..I really need someone's advice. I have a 16 yr. old niece which called me crying saying that she is freaked out because her bf has some kind of blisters in his privates and she is afraid she can catch it (they don't know what it is) now she said that her ovaries have been hurting lately ..but I don/'t thin that has NOTHING to do with what he has but I might be wrong..now she came to because she doesn not get along wtih ther father what-so-ever and the mom is NOT in the picture..my question is..do I take her to get tested for STD's OR do I take her to by Gynecologist? Her father has the Medicare BUT she doesn't not want him to find out about anything but I think it would be easier to go thru that insurance instead of ME paying....could it be an STD or a woman related problem? Where should I take her?

Take her to a gyno and have the doctor test for STD's. If money is your problem, take her to Planned Parenthood or the free clinic.
Sounds like her boyfriend has herpes, and she may have them too.
16 year olds having sex and spreading diseases- what a shame.

I think that you should take her to the doctor whether her father knows or not because your a woman that she trusts and this is a woman's thing, not a man's. Maybe you both could split the bill. I think she should tell her dad what's going on and if he's a good man he'll understand that this is something that can't be ignored. What if she catches HPV from her boyfriend? That virus causes cancer. I hope her father understands that any STD, if left untreated, is potentially fatal. Parents should understand that know matter how much they want to sheild their children from certain things they can't sheild them forever and the best thing to do is be smart and relistic about your child's sexual activity. I was 16 when my mom put me on the pill and consider myself lucky to have a mom like her.

You should be able to find a free clinic to test for an STD. I would be shocked if you can't find one. Even if you can't find a free clinic, a test for all diseases is only about $45 and an aids test is free.
Blisters around the penis sounds to me like a herpes or genital wart infection, though I could be wrong because I am not a doctor.

You can definitely find a free clinic to test her. I have a friend who does not have insurance and she gets tested every year for STDs and it is $63. The test is for a wide variety of STDs.

tell the father you are taking her to an OBGYN for a regular pap test. use his insurance card. if he wont let you/her go take her to a free clinic to get tested. it sounds like the BF has herpes. as for her ovaries, it could be a number of things, like her period or a cyst. herpes doesn't affect the ovaries. and is she sure that its the ovaries? could she just be cramping? ovaries can only be tested through an internal sonogram. have her checked one way or another please

If they've been having intercourse you need to get her tested for STD's. ASAP!! Look around, you may find clinics that can do this without her father knowing. Make her call around as well. She's 16, old enough to drive. Obviously she thinks she's old enough to be sexually active, then she's old enough to take responsibility for it. Don't let her make this your problem, & explain this to her. You're there to help her, NOT do it for her.
Good luck.
