I guess I will be honest & say I am queen of kids parties! I always do parties, obviously my kids bdays, but i do back to school parties, halloween parties, easter hunts, outdoor movies--everyone always raves over my ideas. So i'll just give a few to you then. My daughter is 10, ive been thru lots of parties. well, a big one is Luaus, that always fun. Youo can start with www.orientaltrading.com that will be foirst to give you some ideas. Girls will love it, they'll get to dress up. They can wear grass skirts, leis, flower hair pieces, or strw hats, you can buy cool glasses for fancy drinks. They sell coconut glasses, they are real, just carved out. Make frozen drinks, fancy straws--like umbrella straws. They even have little tiki glasses too, a bit cheaper option. So decorate with grass skirts on tables, raffia, tikis thru the yard, tiki torches if not by kids or just not lit. GAmes, limbo of course! Maybe some sunglasses for the kids too, little prizes for games. For food, go way out & roast a pig, but not sure how many 8 yr olds will eat a pig they see. But LOTS of fruit, like fruit ka bobs, pinapple centerp[iece. carve it out & fill w/ fruit all chunked up.
a fairy party good idea too. You can buy them all fairy wings, decorate outside with all sorts of tule & flowers, have a tea party, set up little enchanted forest. im kind of getting out of touch with that know kids getting bigger.
weve done survivor parties, fear factor--real cool!
or i mentioned outdoor movies. Thats a neat idea. Watch the weather, choose a good night, & have an outdoor movie, like the drive ins. Call around local places like audio, video equipment places & see if they rent big screens, dvd player, speakers, all for outside night of entertainment. Make popcorn, you can buy popcorn bags, make ahead of time, buy bags & fill up ahead of time, or if $ is ok, rent a popcorn maker too, those old fashion kind. if its cooler out, make hot chocolate too. I did this & got lids--marshmellows, whip cream too. I did it this past fall, halloween about 50 some kids ranged from 5-15 alllll loved it!
or a carnival game idea. again www.orientaltrading.com for all little prizes, but set up all sorts of stations outside. You can have bean bags, a fishing game(magnetic) fish pick up prize, duck game(kiddie pool, rubber ducks w/#-prize), the sucker tree game(pick sucker, get it, dot on bottom, a prize), a barf buffet(eat something gross get a prize), maybe a $ booth( set something up blow around $), tatoo station,, a craft station, sand art, painting, line up pop bottles-sand in them wiegh down--BOWLING, just whatever games u think interested in. prizes--they love prizes! & also LOVE pinatas! Or rent a jumpie if you have the $ too. Have fun!

Look into renting one of those water slides that are inflatable, the kids usually wear themselves out. Or if you have a relative that has a pool, one of my best birthday's was a pool party. My parents started off the pooling by throwing nickles in the shallow end dimes in the mid part and quarters in the deep end. There were a few pennies that had a specific date and if you got one you would win 5 bucks. The same with the dimes, but maybe two prizes of 10 bucks. The quarters you just got to keep and the kids went into a frenzy collecting them. Go to a unfinished pottery store and buy piggy banks the kids can paint. They can store their earned coins in them! Use a paint pen to put their names on them.

1.) Take her and her friends to the skating rink! (Assuming that they know how to skate)
2.) Get another parent and take them to a hotel to stay.
3.) GO TO THE FUN CENTER!
4.) cook something fun to eat for break fast like a big meal of sasage and eggs and fruit and stuff buffet style then go see a movie!
5.) Get you guys hair done and paint the town red like going to a spa!
6.) Do my all time favorite and CRANK UP THE MUSIC AND DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY! Well at least until her bedtime!

We have a zoo in our town and many of my friends have packed a picnic lunch and taken the kinds to the zoo. They usually have a train and some sort of petting zoo. This is a fun experience for kids to do with their friends. Then they go back to there house and have cake, ice cream and of course presents.

mexican fiesta: meal could be nachos, tacos, burritos
games could include a pinata, Doña Blanca(see link below for instructions)
invitations, party favors, fun decorations and more( see 2nd link below)
or maybe a mini olympics theme since you mentione the weather is nice and a big backyard......set up an obstacle course, shoe kick, etc etc, meal could be bbq so less mess to clean up
maybe a fear factor type thing?....kids blindfolded and have to do a food taste test...nothing so bad as bugs and stuff like they have on fear factor...but say peeled grapes=eyeballs, spaghetti=worms.....and since they are blindfolded they can't see what they are really eating until they taste it

Make a silly olympic theme. You can make your own games. . relays with water, balloon tosses, balance competitions, jump rope jump offs. Keep a score and award your Gold, Silver and Bronse.
With this idea you can keep a budget or go all crazy.
