Tofu! ok, so a lot of americans think that tofu is bland and gross but it really isn't! Tofu pretty much takes in any type of flavoring it's cooked in. I love tofu and eggplant - a chinese dish with some sort of sweet brown sauce. It's so yummy! There are tons of chinese dishes that use tofu with veggies. And a lot of people don't know this, but there are different kinds of tofu as well. Try going to an Asian market instead of an american one and you'll be surprised at all that you'll find.
You may also want to try indian food too or if your local market has a "world foods" aisle. Since all indians don't eat cow and many of them are vegetarian, they have a lot of alternative, tasty, balanced dishes using spinach, beans, spices, etc. Some are already packaged for you so you just dump it in a pot and cook then eat with rice. It may sound strange, but it might pay off to be adventurous!

i prefer cashews or soy products such as tofu or Morningstar Farms' veggie burgers. there is really no single food item that you can get the same amount of protein as say a steak, but vegetarianism is known as "eat more, weigh less" diet. so, you need to try a variety of foods. i've found that whole grain products have more protein as well. as a vegetarian, you also need to find sources of vitamin B12, but most people have no problem with that. good luck!

If you drink 3, 8oz. glasses of milk a day your already getting 27grams of protein (9g per cup.) So now you need to swap up those white breads, rices, and pasta's for whole grain products. About 1 to 2 cups will give you adequate protein depending on your size and physical activity. Another great substitute are beans and you only need a cup full. Snacking protein include nut, and seeds but you only need about a handful, People over eat their protein which just produces fat unless your a strength trainer.

Beans, legumes, pulses, lentils and whole grains, such as quinoa are great sources. Millet and flax are good too. You get an extra punch of nutrition if you start juicing fruits and veggies. You can usually get a juice extractor at thrift shops for just a few dollars. I juice carrots, celery, cucumber, parsley, swiss chard, and apples. Sometimes all together as a cocktail. Bean and cheese tacos and burittos are a great and tasty way to get more in your diet. I also mash beans with potatoes and fry it up as a patty. Yummy
