The only time it is too late is if you have terminal lung cancer. Otherwise the benefits are enormous. For details go the the American Lung Society for precise info. I quit after 24 years (started at 18). I started visualizing myself as a non-smoker, imagined what I would do will the extra $150.00 a month and remember that it did kill my dear Mother at the age of 61. I created some mantras to repeat to myself as motivation and distraction. And also a toy cig to play with when my hands became restless. I chose a day like the first day of winter(try Columbus day, it's coming up) and just stuck with it. If you really want to quit more than you want that cig YOU CAN DO IT!!!

It's never too late. Damage may be done, but you can certainly have a brighter future outlook if you do quit. As far as diseases, some non-smokers get cancer & resp. disease. There are no guarantees, but quitting is not only good for you but for those around you who endure second hand smoke.

I quit at 65 with a 5 pack a day habit
A good reason for quitting ( I think) is a continuing sexlife
If you
can't breath good enough, you can't do it

My dad smoked since he was 11, but gave up just before he took early retirement. He's never looked back. Mind you, he lost his voice for six months soon after he gave up, doctors said it was an unusual withdrawal symptom

If you have not developed a lung disease, it is never to late to stop..
The only thing in this case that will not return to normal would be chemical compounds in your brain that have be permanently altered to crave nicotine.
