I have used 3 different drugs to try and control my BP and since being on lisinipril have had an almost constantly irritated or sore throat...is this a common side effect? It is driving me crazy and my doctor just blows it off. Also my monthly cycle is off kilter...could any of this be from the lisinipril? Should I try another doctor? Any help is appreciated..thanks

I think it is the lisinipril too...had a similar problem on Mavik but not nearly as bad.....I tried mycardis and had a constant migrane for a week solid so quit taking it! I've also had a couple allergic reactions to an antibiotic and an herbal cold remedy...took stuff before with no problem...took me off Lotrel because I had heartburn, heart jumping and tingling numbness in my feet and legs..once I was off it it went away. Tried me on DynaCrc with the lisinipril and the numbness came back after using it a week I quit it and it went away. This throat problem has gone on since last Aug when I got a sinus infection out of no where....no sign of a cold or anything. Was on an antibiotic twice before it cleared up and no matter what I do such as take an antihistamine it can come and go but mostly it just stays!! I only have allergies in the spring when the trees come out and where I live they aren't even close to that! thanks for the help...

ACE's are a mainstay in bloodpressure control. Now, the sore throat/coughing is a very normal side effect which may get better with time. This is because of an increase in somthing called Bradykinin, which causes coughing and thus throat irritation. if you tell your doctor they will most likely switch you from this drug and place you on a similar one called an ARB which causes less of these symptoms. but ACEs are very important. Your doc shouldn't blow it off because this is your life as well. i've never seen a doctor leave a patient on this if they say they're having annoying coughing. The cycle could be affected but it's not likely. hope it helps!

Cough, irritated throat is a common side effect of ACE inhibitors.
A lot of physicians these days switch to ARBs, or Angiotensin Receptor Blockers, which are similar to ACE inhibitors, but w/o the side effect of cough. The downside to this is that it is usually much more expensive.
Recently, a new medication in the class of direct angiotensin blockers came out, but that is a different topic in itself.
My advice, ask about an ARB, like diovan, cozaar, micardis; who knows, that maybe enough for the side effects to go away.

The lisinopril is not causing the sore throat and not causing your period to be off kilter. I would think that if your throat is bothering you it might be from sinus drainage so try using claritin to help dry up your sinuses. As for your menstrual cycle that could be different because of your age aka perimenopause or it could be just that your period is changing at this point in your life.
