Wow, now there's a can of worms!
Nope, there's no excuse since they started putting warning labels on cig packs like, what, 40 years ago? Anyone who purposely ignores that and knowingly abuses their body and destroys their health should not get to have such an "out". Such drains on society should just have to suffer the consequences - they asked for it. Cold and harsh as I know that sounds but people should be held accountable and responsible for their stupid choices.
Then again, the welfare system in general is both the biggest drain on taxpayers $, and the most compassionate way to take care of people. Used to be churches took care of people, but they don't anymore and have instead become just another money making business and now you're lucky if someone comes to pray with you and give you a plant.
Well now, I really don't mind if church is phasing out of society so I guess I won't grumble about paying SS taxes anymore, hehe! Okay, let 'em have their stinkin' disability, it's mainly the smokers that keep me in business anyway! And I DO have a lot of compassion and TLC for my patients; it is just screaming maddening, frustrating and agonizing in many ways to watch people hurt themselves with such a well known and obvious danger.

Wow.... If we rule out people (like smokers) who else can we rule out?

People with respiratory illnesses: COPD and Emphysema is most often from smoking, but not always. But it's gonna have to be straight across the board to make sure we rule out the smokers.

People that are obese: They KNOW being overweight causes diabetes and heart disease. Nothing for them.

People injured in a car wreck: Maybe only if it's their fault? They know to drive safe or they could have an accident. Nothing for them either.

People that drink: Don't have to be an alcoholic either - perhaps they just had a weak liver. They didn't know??? Well, they should have.

We all live and we are going to get old and sick. I don't think I've seen a healthy person die yet (other than accidents and we already covered that). What we should think about is being kind to each other and supportive of everyone as we've come down here to make this journey together and advance. :)

No. The reason is because smokers have an addiction and not a disability. If government were to do such a thing, every body would want a slice of the pie.

No because then everybody would be on disability checks, such as eating disorders, being tire, being fat, etc and the country would go broke.

this could be asked about alcoholics that get disability for being an alcoholic.

NO... In fact, I don't think smokers should be able to get ANY welfare or medicaid or medicaire. If they wanted their drug that badly, they shouldn't expect the rest of us to pay for physical problems caused by their drug problem
