I have a problem with my nose being stuffed every night and I'm forced to breath through my mouth when I sleep. I've tried over the counter nasal sprays and have learned that they eventually only make matters worse. I cannot afford to go to the doctor at this point and time. Does anyone have any "Natural Home Remedies?"

For one you can buy inexpensive allergy medicine at choppers drug mart (life brand) but if it is only at bed time you may be allergic to you mattress(bed bugs) or the blanket if its feathers or something or plants dust etc

I have the same problem.
Unfortunately this can lead to a sinus infenction. So be careful. If your face starts getting tender in some spots then you need to see a doctor.
- One helpful thing to do is sleep on two pills. If your head is propped up then your sinuses can still drain while you sleep.
- You may also want to get a mold/mildew remover spray. Dust, mold, and mildew are common household allergens. It might be worth it to dust your house with lysol so you can sleep better and to wash your pillow case and sheets.
- You can use a homemade nasal cleaning solution. 1/4 teaspoon salt to 1/2 cup water. Mix well. Plug one nostril and sniff the solution up the other nostril and spit out through your mouth. It is so disgusting but very healthy and helpful!
- Having said all that what really works for me is Sudafed, which in some states you have to get a prescription for. I love Aleve Cold & Sinus. It works great!!!

the natural home remedy is to dust the room, run the vacuum, air it out, put fresh blankets, sheets and pillow cases on, and wash your pillow.
Do you have a pet (and it's dander)? Maybe it's the time of the year for tree alergies. Have you tried "breathe rite" nose strips (you can buy them at Walmart).

Here are some things I do:

I suggest sleeping on 2 pillows - often the elevation will help.

Breath Right strips work a treat, even on a bad head cold.

When I get really stuffed up I do a steam bath. I get in the shower, plug the drain and add 1/2 cup epsom salt and 7 drops of essential oil. Eucalyptus, tea tree and peppermint are strong and penetrating - but lemon works too and it's as minty mentholly. I run the water as hot as I can and breath the steam in deeply. With the kids I sit on the edge of the tub, but for me I will stand in the shower with the water hitting the wall and turn it down when it gets too hot to stand in. Try to stay in the heat and steam for 10 or 15 minutes, right before bed even.

Peace!

the nasal stuffiness could be caused due to a septal deviation.the treament fo which is surgical..once the doctor decides the extent of the condition.
try steam inhalation before going to bed to reduce the nasal congestion. until you decide to visit your doctor..but the relief is temporary

Something is making your nose stuffy!. Probably hay fever or your adenoids are oversized.

Maybe try using extra pillows to prop you upright might help. Also a steam bath to clear the sinus. (Hot water in bowl with face over bowl and head under towel to trap steam - it's uncomfortable but it works.)

Also - try making your eyes water. It normally clears the sinus and make your nose runny too. (Lick a lemon or make yourself sneeze)

I know it sounds really funny, but poking a small ice cube (or something really really cold up there makes your nose run too.

You still need to see the doctor.

A nasal spray of salt water will really help, put a little Vicks Vapor rub in your nose, drs. says not to, I'm 51 and it hasn't killed anyone I know yet. Have you tried sleeping on 2 pillows? Have you tried putting a humidifier in your bedroom to put moisture in the air? Good Luck! Do you have a pet sleeping with you, that might be the problem.
