Hello..I'm an internist so I treat patients with this everyday...First, you definitely need to be on blood pressure medicine because your numbers are clearly elevated consistently...Secondly, High blood pressure(HTN) happens in many people just because it runs in families or can just happen because of reasons that we do not fully understand..It can also be influenced by how we take care of our bodies, such as how much we exercise, our eating habits and weight. There are rare conditions that cause people to have HTN but we do not see these often. You can do a basic screening for these with blood tests and make sure something else isn't going on as well..One clue that you probably have a genetic susceptibility to HTN is the fact that your blood pressure went up during pregnancies. This means that you are likely to develop HTN in the future (which it appears you have done)...My advice is to see an internist or other primary doctor and have them work with you to control your blood pressure...It may take time to get it where you want and you will probably have to take medicine indefinitely but it is in your best health interests to do so...Take care DR J

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

You should attempt to discuss your concerns with your doctor; of course, he/she should explain or discover the cause for your escalating blood pressure. If you have other related problems, you may want to consult a cardiologist. On your own, you can make life changes which may enable you to control your own hypertension, including losing weight (if you are overweight), altering your diet to low fat and cholesterol (often high cholesterol will contribute to rising blood pressure). and exercising regularly. Of course, quit smoking if you do smoke!! Remember, though, be assertive with your M. D.; it is your right to be informed about your own body and health. If you are not satisfied by the doctor's treatment, consider finding another who will listen to you. Good luck!

Diet, exercize, and medication are helpful in controlling hypertension. You may have a genetic predisposition for the disease. This needs to get under control though. Maybe you should request to see a cardiologist. You could have an underlying heart issue going on that you aren't aware of. Better to get it checked out.

Go to an Internal Medicine Doctor, call first tell of your experience and say I need lab work to see why my Blood Pressure is going up and down? It's not stable and say how long it's been going on.Get another opinion.Yes, I think your Doctor should communicate better w/h you.
High Cholesterol and Genetics can cause B.P. to go up.
Your diet needs to be fat free.once you start to take Meds,
I think you must take them always.

I would go get a second opinion or tell your doctor you want to know the cause. If it is something that could be controlled without medication that would be a bonus! Do you have any new stress in your life?

If you are unhappy with this diagnosis, see another Dr. Although it is common to have hypertension post pregnancy, meds should help this. It very well could be an underlying condition. Get it checked out by another doc.

maybe you're stressed up. you should relax a bit. and, about the meds your doctor prescribed you, it's not his fault the meds aren't working. hypertensive drugs are highly individualized. some meds wont work on you but will work on others. why don't you try exercising? it might help.
