It's an electrocardiogram (ecg in america; ekg elsewhere but they're interchangeable)

They will stick a series of leads on your chest. These leads are like little sticky pads attached to wires. It's a painless procedure.

This is used to diagnose problems with the heart. EKG interpreters have this boiled down to an art actually and can find out what the diagnoses are by looking at the patterns. Clinical correlation is required however.

An ekg records the electric rhythm of your heart and is probably the easiest test you could ever undergo.

What will happen is an EKG tech will place 12 or 13 sticky pads in various places on your upper torso and will then hook small clamps to each sticky pad. Each clamp has a wire that connects to an EKG machine.

The tech will then go over to the machine and push a few buttons and about a minute later the test will be complete.

After the test is complete the tech will remove the small clamps and will allow you to remove the sticky pads.

It's amazing how quick and easy this test is.
