They absolutely suffer. Do a little research on factory farming and find out for yourself. Educating yourself is the best way to go.

Yes they do suffer. Not only in the killing process but also the lives they live beforehand. Of course this varies from place to place (and probably each country). In Australia I know that there are lots of short cuts taken as far as feeding and milking etc, and that chickens are kept in terrible conditions- have very little space, live in own waste and some of them get the front of their beaks cut to avoid pecking. It is very sad- all these things done to make money and cram animals into small spaces.
As far as giving up meat, well I am vegetarian so I encourage a vegetarian life, but if you choose to become vegetarian make sure you research a proper healthy vegetarian diet so that you get all of the right nutrients. It will take a bit of reading but once you learn more it gets easier to adapt.

I used to think that too. I thought the animals came from the small farms I pass by. I quit eating meat because of them, I did not know until about a year ago about factory farms and the extreme horrors these poor creatures have to go through. The videos of slaughterhouses I have happened upon are very tough to see if you look at them, I have never made it all the way through one.

I'm really sorry, but there is nothing quick and painless about their lives or deaths. You wouldn't wish it on your worst enemy.
You can watch this if you like
http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/Prefs.asp?video=meet_your_meat
but maybe it is enough to know that legs are broken, animals have several body parts removed (including castration) without anesthetic.
I have been veg for 6-7 years now, and I could still only watch half of the above video.
If you make a decision to go vegetarian, there are many good sources like http://www.vegsoc.org/newveg/fft/index.html
I also have put together a lot of info I found on websites into one, convenient place, here http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-GXLd3H0hc6klMFe3HeGqSDn7SVlgijZ53gHnrrlGNoFgNut5?list=1
There are a lot of good *regulars* who hang out here and would be happy to help and answer any questions or emails.
:)
In the end, the lifestyle you choose is completely up to you.

Of course they suffer. People who eat kosher meat think that the animal does not suffer but I think it is still wrong. My beliefs, whatever. But what gets me is that a lot of people who eat meat believe in reincarnation... If you believe in that, then don't you feel like a cannibal? Just doesn't make sense to me.

They suffer more when they are alive. These animals are kept in small spaces where they cannot even walk or turn around. They are fed hormones and antibiotics. Regardless of that, meat consumption is linked to several cancers and heart disease.

I Know they do. There are boatloads of videos and stories that really show the horrors involved with meat. Everything from chickens being boiled alive to pigs being butchered alive to cows with massive injuries who aren't put down because it would lower their value. And, the list goes on and on. The more you learn, the more disgusting it is.

gee i don't know, would u suffer if some @-hole was force feeding u with a tub down your throat?and then after wards-just for the sake of pleasure-getting your throat sliced open, or slaughtered mercilessly and your blood getting splattered everywhere
animals get happy, enjoy having fun, feel affection when someone shows them care, they also get depressed, hurt, cry, bleed just the same as u and i,
THEY HAVE FEELINGS TOO, THEY SHOW EMOTION

yes, i do think they suffer.
for instance, most chickens live their whole lives crammed into cages with no light and no food, and they end up with severe injuries due to overcrowding. they live like that their whole lives before being killed, which usually happens by them being thrown into a grinder, still alive
