There are a variety of reasons. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a possibility, yes, but it could also be that you just have poor circulation. If it is a frequent thing, see your doctor and he can refer to a neurologist who can determine what the probable cause is. For CTS, you can wear wrist braces (maybe during the night) to take some of the strain off the nerve. For circulation, the doc may just suggest certain activities to improve it.

It's not carpal tunnel, You don't want to know what that feels like when your trying to sleep. I would figure you just slept in an akward position having to do with your hands or wrist. Don't worry about it.

Purely an anecdotal answer but I found I had the same problem. One day I realized I was sleeping on my hands at night!

well you could be sleeping on them or the postion you sleep in. probably the circulation kinda got cut off by pressure on the vein/artery.
