Playing various roles (hetero or gay) allows the actor to show us his many talents for reaching various depths of his craft. Remember, he is acting in a gay role but that role doesn't define his sexuality. A well know actor from the 50s played regular guy roles but allegedly he enjoyed sex with men (unfortunately, he died from AIDS in the mid-late 80s). Also, look at Eddie Murphy in the film "Coming to America"; he played a variety of roles, though none were gay but it showed us his ability to play various roles; and in Beverly Hills Cop 1, he briefly played a gay guy as a cover during his investigation.

My feelings about these activities is moot, unless the guy violates the law.
