Description

Lycopene is an antioxidant compound that gives tomatoes and certain other fruits and vegetables their color. It is one of the major carotenoids in the diet of North Americans and Europeans.

Overview

People who have diets rich in tomatoes, which contain lycopene, appear to have a lower risk of certain types of cancer, especially cancers of the prostate, lung, and stomach. Further research is needed to find out what role, if any, lycopene has in the prevention or treatment of cancer. It is likely that the preventive effect of diets high in fruits and vegetables cannot be explained by just one single part of the diet.

maybe you are deficient in Lycopene? Try to eat tomatoes with olive oil, or any other kind of oil; this will help to absorb the lycopene in tomatoes four times better. Canned tomatoes have high concentration of lycopene too, higher than in raw tomatoes/

I love tomatoes, but only at the end of summer. Otherwise I cook with tomatoes and drink tomato juice.

The lycopene is increased when the tomatoes are cooked.

I think there are worse things to be addicted to! Maybe you are missing some nutrient that is in tomatoes so that is why you are constantly craving them. Try taking a multivitamin and see if that helps. Otherwise I can't see the harm in eating lots of tomatoes...

Yes and no. Tomatoes are healthy for you but just salad and chicken are not giving you all the nutrients you need. I'm really not sure why you are asking this particular question in the vegetarian section though (your question is not a vegetarian question per se)

Wrong? No.
Healthy? Weeeeeeell, you may want to grab yourself a good multi-vitamin and maybe make some fruit-smoothie/protein shakes to replace anything that tomatoes and chicken can't provide.

:)
