Centuries ago people thought the Earth was the centre of the universe and we were God's greatest creation.

Now we know that the universe is enormously large. Even our own galaxy is massive.

It takes two years just to get to the nearest planet.

And here we are, tiny creatures in the outskirts of a medium size galaxy.

If we're so important to God, why bother with the rest?

Because perhaps we are not alone in the universe.

It is impossible to know the mind of an infinitely intelligent being. You really wanna stay up nights with thoughts? Try figuring out exactly what He meant when He said, "I have always been." Yeah...it is hard to grasp eternity. It is impossible to understand it backwards. Anyway, I went on a tangent...sorry. We are important to God. If you think you are not, then you have believed (like all of us at some time or another) the lies of Satan. Easy to do isn't it? Maybe the rest of the Universe was created for the same reason we were created: for His purpose and for His pleasure. I mean, you gotta admit: the stars and planets and galaxies and such are REALLY cool to look at. Maybe He did it for us. Did he HAVE to make flowers smell nice? Or the songs of birds so beautiful? He loves us and thinks we are wonderful. Just think: He brings you a sunrise every morning, a sunset every night, flowers in the Spring, and kittens and puppies for your enjoyment and laughter. Why bother? Because He really does love us THAT MUCH.

How do you measure "significance"?

We are significant to ourselves... and what does the rest of the Universe matter?

Think about it enough and you should realise that "objectively" speaking... the entirety of existence is without any worth nor purpose. The only significance or meaning to be found in anything is that which we give it ourselves..... as individuals (a concept most people seem to stray from).

You might look up at the sky... realise how huge the Universe is and how massive the stars are..... and feel insignificant.

I look up there... see those balls of hydrogen undergoing nuclear fusion.... remember as the Japanese taught me that progression means making more complex systems in smaller packages... and realise I'm far more awesome than any stupid star.
I base my significance in this case less on size and more on complexity... and I definitely thrash any star for sheer complexity. =P

Small we are....but are we insignificant? I wouldn't say so.
People are known to 'talk' to God and that some had their prayers answered.
Insignificant only if we think so. I personally do not think so. Size does not indicate significance. Humans are so complex...and so are creatures in the rest of the world.

The universe creates light for warmth, for navigation, for interpreting the seasons, and is also called the dwelling place of the elect or those who have believed. Eternal Heaven = eternal expanse.
