Is there a free programme anywhere where I can scan a document and then be able to put it into a word document and be able to edit it?

I think what you mean is OCR software (Optical Character Recognition). Many scanners have the option to perform this, have a check on your options or software that came with the scanner, especially if it's a newer model.

If your scanner doesn't have that, try searching online for freeware OCR pgrogrammes.

Here's a review with a link to free software that I found for a programme called 'Simple OCR':

As others have already said, there are free programs available called OCR - Optical character recognition.

I have used 2 different versions and they are more trouble than they are worth.
you spend more time correcting mistakes and filling in missing areas, than you would if you just hand copied the entire document.
hand written documents are the worst, but even good type written documents suffer. Hand written documents will need correction on almost every word.
Unless you have a very good reason to use a scanner, OCR and word processor, dont bother, it is not worth the time and effort

Your scanner should have come with some basic scanner ocr software. The OCR (optical character recognition) software will convert the image into text boxes which will can be imported into word.

If you don't have the software that came with your scanner go to the makers website and see if its available for download.

you should use the program that would have come on the disk you used to install your scanner on your computer. then save the scanned image and import it into word, or on some scanners programs you can edit the text directly in that program.
there should be a program that came with your scanner already on your computer if you've installed the scanner properly.
