My boyfriend was involved in an minor accident last year, infortunately at the time he was not insured i know (idiot but he didn't intend to drive it till it was but a friend was in trouble). anyway the police gave him a fine of £200 for not having insurance he has since paid this but has now receive a court summons for not having all the documents required at the scene, we don't understand why he has been summoned the only documents he didn't have were insurance and he has already been fined for that so does anyone know why he's should be summoned for something he thought was over with??

Well after putting us through a stressful couple of weeks, it seems the police were incompetent, on arrival at court they said they'd had no record of documents being produced within the normal 7 day period hence the summons, how stupid are they really, as without producing the documents we couldn't remove the vehicle from the police inpound yard, work that one out! i've completely lost confidence in them now, luckly he didn't lose his license.

Hi Chell!
It sounds like the 200 quid was for the damages for the other vehicle if the fine was issued by the police..but that sounds abit odd too as it's the courts what should deal with that??
He is appearing in court for the punishment of driving without insurance which is a fine & a minium 0f six points!! I got done for no insuance & I got 7 points & a 240 quid fine..they might come down abit harder as another vehicle was involved tho : (
OR!! the person involved in the accident might be trying to blag whiplash or something?? I doubt this tho!!* is it a normal magistrates summons??
the 200 quid fine he got before did he appear in court for that??(or was it from the police??) they might just have forgotten to add penalty points to his licence..(they do make mistakes)or it might be were he's failed to produce his documents like MOT etc to the police station within 7 days of the accident' which is a small fine.
but basically he's in court for points
Good Luck!

Not sure how the Police could give him a £200 fine. Only the magistrate can do that and would generally put about 6 points on licence for no insurance.
Has there been some oversight perhaps? Did they forget to put points on the first time so are having a second bite?
Go to Court and you'll find out.

You can now recieve a Fixed Penalty notice for no insurance which is 6 points and £200 fine - this is enough to lose you your driving licence if you've been driving for less than 2 years. It seems like he's been fined for failiing to produce other docs - ie mot or driving licence within the specified time - normally 7 days.

in case you do no longer pay a licence, you will continuously obtain threatening letters. I as quickly as had no television contained in the united kingdom for over a three hundred and sixty 5 days. It became no longer friendly. Threatening letters, even telephone calls, the detector van drove up the line frequently, etc. i offered a television and a licence. in the event that they have not have been given your call and you haven't any longer have been given a television, they are able to do no longer something. while you're in a multi occupancy development, you may assume a bypass to quickly. the belief is that each and each domicile or flat has a television.

Insurance is possibly THE most important documents to have and a lack of insurance is veiwed very dimly, points being added to his licence is very probably the reason for the summons

I think you may have answered your own question. He was fined for not having insurance. He is now being summoned for not having the correct documentation. This is a different and seperate offence.

unfortunately yes maybe the person involved as made a claim against him there insurers want to claim back there money for the car /bike damage just hope you don't go through what i had to the woman got a pay out of 63k and she was the one who was at fault but because i had no insurance they tried to blame me lucky for me the person who i was working for didn't have insurance at all so the courts let me off and he is still being chased by the motor insurance bureau for the 63k they paid out

This is a very serious offence and the Magistrate may want to add some points to his licence.

to be honest i am not surprised, you can plead guilty without actually going to court just return the forms with your plea and reasons, they will go ahead without your presence and charge you as necessary, be warned will probably get points on licence.hope this helps...ps we all learn the hard way stay smiling
