Do you believe it really is a serious issue, or just a waste of time?

Global Warming/Climate Change is not as big a problem as some would have you to believe. A recent article in the New York Times has even asked Al Gore to stop all the hype:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/13/science/13gore.html?_r=1&oref=slogin That same article talks about Al Gore's claim that the oceans could rise 20 feet is exaggerated by 18.08 FEET! The latest UN study on the subject says the seas could rise a MAXIMUM of 23 inches. Al was only 18.08 FEET off. That, my freind IS hype...

If you look up any global temperature chart on the net, you'll find the earth's temperature has only increased by about 6/10 of one degree (C) - that's 1.1 degree (F), in the last 125 years. So yes, the globe is warming up, but it's not overheating like some would have you to believe. http://data.giss.nasa.gov:80/gistemp/2005/2005cal_fig1.gif

The latest research shows that the methane from cows and pigs is a major factor in the increase of "heat trapping gas". It's actually 23 times more potent as a heat trapping gas than is carbon dioxide. http://www.greenpeace.org/international/campaigns/climate-change/science/other_gases According to the newest UN report on Global Warming, "Livestock are responsible for 18 per cent of the greenhouse gases that cause global warming, more than cars, planes and all other forms of transport put together." http://news.independent.co.uk:80/environment/article2062484.ece

So if Al Gore and all the alarmists really want to do something about climate change, they MUST become vegetarians and shut down cow and pig farms. I mean seriously, if they truly believe that global warming is as disastrous as they are preaching then they need to stop eating meat, period! I doubt that will happen. If not, then they are the hypocrites that some of us already suspect they are.

Also Al Gore preaches to you to conserve, but he does not practice it himself. He uses 20 times more energy in his Nashville mansion than the national average. http://www.tennesseepolicy.org/main/article.php?article_id=367
One thing he has not learned is that you MUST practice what you preach... at some point you will get caught as he has.

Capnemo did a good job explaining it.

To add to his explanation, global temperatures are changing and will continue to do so without man's intervention for a very long time to come. Historical records over a significant period show that the globe is actually cooler than it has been many times. Why are we in a panic about the globe warming towards what appears to be the normal heat range?

I'm repeating myself but...
There is not enough water to flood the earth no matter how many glaciers melt.
An increase in overall temperatures will increase the amount of arable land, not decrease it.
The global warming models are a joke, they are meaningless due to glaring flaws.
It is not physically possible for the earth to heat up like Venus.

It's a serious problem. The scientists who criticized Gore for being overly dramatic also agree with him on the basic science. Global warming is real, mostly caused by us, and a serious problem.

Even a small rise in temperature will cause devastating coastal flooding. Changes in temperature and precipitation patterns will seriously damage agriculture.

Rich nations can cope, but it will cost them huge sums of money and lower their standard of living, I poor countries already struggling to feed themselves many (not all) people will die of starvation.

There's a mountain of data supporting the mainstream theory of global warming. The best summary of that data is here:

http://www.ipcc.ch/SPM2feb07.pdf

The data, not some brilliant argument, is why the vast majority of scientists think global warming is real. Proof here:

http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/306/5702/1686

Which is why the bottom line is:

"the question of global warming was settled years ago for all but a few holdouts in the scientific community"

http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity...

This is science. You can't decide about the truth by what argument sounds good to you. You have to look at the data. That's what the climatologists do. And the data clearly says it's a real change, it's significant, and it's (mostly) caused by us. More info here:

My opinion is that nothing we can do will stop it so we would be better served if all of the energy spent pointing fingers and trying to find some way to make it not so was spent on getting ready for the almost certain impacts.

Theres evidence to prove it's real. It scares me that people think it's just a myth. I guess it's easier to believe nothings wrong than to deal with it. How serious it is would be where the difference of opinion lies.

It is not a serious issue. It is an issue, but not as serious as most people think.

Its real and we all should be concerned about it, as well as the pollution. Everyone need to do their bit .
