This R&S section seems to be mysteriously full of them! If I were an atheist, I would have absolutely no interest in coming on here.
Misunderstandings and misconceptions, not to mention intentional propaganda to discredit religions or religious beliefs, just make matters worse.
I feel that many atheists take things out of context, and then teach that to others as "facts." Their students then barge into religious discussions thinking that they are wise, when in reality they just look like impetuous fools to everyone. They tell everyone off, and then leave, thinking that they just enlightened everyone, or at least disrupted their discussions (and believe that this is somehow wise because the religious "deserve" it).
I have little interest in some things, and I don't think you will see me going to that section and disrupting it. In theory, should not atheists have little interest in anything religious or spiritual?

Can atheists read the details?

There is nothing in my question about censorship, or me not wanting diverse views, or any such thing.
Most people do not seem to be answering the question.
Some are, look at dee_gee 's answer (which I appreciate). I don't buy her answer, and I would like to think that is why they are here, but the fact is, most of them are simply disruptive and their questions and answers in this section are not compatible with her answer. Does any atheist have a better reason than the one she gave?

Everyone is God conscious whether they realise it or not, or choose to admit it! If so called atheists were not God conscious, they would not make such a big deal of trying to dissuade others from believing in the existence of God.
Everyone has a God shaped void in their lives - we were made by God, for God, and until we come into a relationship with God, which is the reason for why we exist, then people will try to fill their lives with others things, but other things do not satisfy.

Because R&S is about people's beliefs - including the belief that God does NOT exist.
What's the problem? Surely religionists can stand a little critiscism? Or perhaps they've forgotten how to turn the other cheek? R&S includes the examination and analysis of all things religious and spiritual. Without the atheists questioning peoples' beliefs (and the religionists' replies) the R&S section would be a very dull place with endless questions to which everyone would simply reply that they agree.
Something as fundamental as the existence (or otherwise) of God and the origin of everything we know deserves close examination and questioning from all possible points of view.
I may not agree with the religionists on many things but I respect their right to hold different views and certainly wouldn't want to exclude them by setting up an "Atheists Only" section.

I'm not an atheist (maybe a little bit sometimes) but maybe the atheists are coming here because religions play such a large part in society today that it touches on everyone's lives, such as through government and public policy, whether they like it or not. So it becomes everyone's business.

It isn't only Atheists who take things out of context and then teach it as fact to others. It's one of the biggest reasons people within religions end up splitting and making other sects. As for Why... well, I don't have to be a doctor to have an opinion on medicine. Or a Politician in order to have an opinion on Politics. I think one of the reasons why they do come in here is, thru Politics, mainstream religions are trying to pass laws according to their Religion... this affects everyone, including Atheists. In order to maintain balance within our laws, they would have to know what it is they are up against, what the other side believes.
I'm sure there are tons of other reasons, but I see these as the more legit reasons why an Atheist would come in here. As for attitude, I see just as much crap come from those within Relgion as I do from Atheists. It all evens out in the end.

Atheism is a religion, based on the belief that gods do not exist. There is a variety of other beliefs among Atheists, Atheism does not exclude the belief in spirituality.
I am happy to see a variety of views expressed here.

I disagree. The fact that someone calls themself an atheist means by definition that they have an interest in the whole religious area. If they were simply not interested in religion they would never have gone through the intellectual thought processes involved in coming to the conclusion that they were atheist.

I find that there aren't enough questions in the sections I enjoy like Politics & Government so I root around the other sections.
If I see something that annoys me, or I see somebody talking through their ***, I tend to answer. This almost always occurs in the religion section.

Because in their real lives they would be told to keep their ideas to theirselves. And they can't understand with all the logic, education, and brain power they claim to have that our country, the USA, is still mostly Christian and run by Christians. And you are right, a true atheist would not care one bit about religion.

Atheists may 'claim' to believe there is no God, but they cannot help themselves. They do not realise it, but they have an 'inbuilt' desire to worship.
every race on earth has.
Why is it that the most isolated tribe on earth, usually in the Amazon, have a 'form' of religion.
If the jungle supplies all their needs, why would they have their 'gods'. And worship them to supply their needs?
Even atheists somehow know there is a price to pay
for ignoring God. So they come on here and make remarks and sit back ...knowing....that God will not retaliate.
To them, this proves He does not exist.

That's you're prerogative. I'm atheist and I like coming here to ask and answer questions regarding religion. Extend your logic to everything you're not and then ask yourself if you should be censored on all of those topics. Actually since you're a theist you shouldn't be discussing atheism. Right?
