bad connections on plug in jacks

Where did you hooked it? To the Headphone socket of the TV? Then most of the external audio systems can not get correct signal from TV.

You need to connect your Home theater Input Pins to the audio Line-out pins of the TV. Some TV will have these pins in the rear panel.

I expect 'tripping' is the discontinuty in the audio signal you are getting out of home theatre right. You will hear sound as soon as you connect to head phone socket but it will fade soonly. Right? this is what you meant ?
