Depends what you mean - if you mean people are able to speak a few words, or speak as a 2nd language, speak as mother tongue ?
Generally English is spoken more than Spanish - being the recognised language of media, business and science. Spanish is a close 3rd.
Hindi while widely spoken actually comes well after Bengali worldwide - but it depends who you get the figures from and what they have to gain by claiming to be the most spoken - i.e. opening contact centres in India/Asia would suggest they have something to gain by projecting image of being most spoken language.
From the other answers I can see everyone else Googled it without doing any further investigation. The figures they are using is native speakers, living in that country - so India and China figure highly.

There are probably more native speakers of Spanish than of English. Most current estimates indicate about 330 million 1st language Spanish speakers to about 320 million 1st language English Speakers. But the total number of English speakers, including people who are bilingual or speak English well as a second language is much greater, more than 900 million, whereas the total number of Spanish speakers is about 500 million. All these numbers are rough estimates because there is not a precise way to collect the data, but certainly the total number of English speakers is far greater than the total number of Spanish speakers.

English is the third most spoken language (with Chinese Madarin first, Hindi second).
However, English is the FIRST language in aviation, and absolutely MANDATORY...
Pilots are to use OR the language of the country they fly over, OR English.
Think of it: a pilot going from northen Russia to South Africa would need to speak 26 languages!
I wish the people do the same.

English, of course! It's the lingua franca of the business world whereever you are - whether you are in Asia,Europe, Australia, Africa and the United Nations. Even on the internet, almost everyone communicates in English. Haven't you noticed?
Actually the Chinese language is spoken by most people - at least a billion I guess -, but it's not in your question.

The most commonly used language in the world is Mandarin.
Over one billion people speak Mandarin as their mother tongue.
The next most common languages are:
ENGLISH 500 million
Hindustani 497 million
SPANISH 390 million
Russian 280 million
Arabic 250 million
Bengali 210 million
Portugese 190 million
Malay-Indonesian 160 million
These are the most important languages in terms of total population, but the world has 191 countries and over 6800 languages! Many of these languages are limited to very small geographic areas or small ethnic populations, but they're all fully evolved, complex, culturally rich linguistic systems.
Important languages in business and for Internet service providers
The languages that are important in international business, as an Internet service provider, depend largely on the specific business you are in, the service you provide, and where you are focusing your marketing efforts. In general, we can say that the following languages are key for most international service providers:
ENGLISH
German
Italian
Japanese
SPANISH
What makes a language important to business? It's partly a matter of target population, and it's partly the affluence of each population and their willingness to do business outside their local communities or nations.
Important languages in science and technology
The languages that are important in the fields of science and technology are arguably the following:
ENGLISH
German
Russian
SPANISH
What makes a language important to science and technology? It's primarily the amount of science being done in a given linguistic group, and partly the accessibility of that language to the larger scientific and technical community (either through bilingualism or through machine-mediated translation).

Strictly speaking, more people speak some form of 'English' than the number of people who speak Spanish. Spanish is more rule-based and to be understood one has to be more careful and disciplined. It's easier to 'hack it' in English. While English speakers may be more numerous, they tend to have a poorer mastery of their language than Spanish speakers.
