I know as a British Passport holder I can move to France but do I need a permit to be there? How do you sign up for their NHS? Can I get a job if I don't know how to speak French (obviously would make an effort to learn it). My man is French so that is why I'm going.

No you do not need a permit. In the past you would have needed a carte de sejour but the authorities accept your EU passport now.

As for health - the rules are very complicated and you would be well advised to seek advice from the French authorities - can your man not do this for you?

There should be no problem getting a job (except maybe in really remote rural areas) and French can't be difficult; in Paris even 3 year olds speak it.

The EU has really made things much easier to move around the member states and I would be surprised if you had any problems. Ignore the rubbish that people talk about the irritations of French bureaucracy - it only seems worse because of the language and lack of familiarity and you have the advantage of living with someone who should know the system.

Bon Chance

when I took early retirement I lived in France for 4 years, I didn't go through all the bull **** other answerers are gabbling about. There is no NHS you have to pay the doc per visit then claim back on your insurance .The same applies for prescriptions from the pharmacie. Any way if your boyfriend is French he should be able to inform you better than we can

If you are a EEA citizen (European) you can go to France without any problem.
To apply to their NHS there, you must do it in 2 steps:
- There are specific forms that you can get from UK before go to France and use it. Some kind of agreement between EEA countries.
- Once there, if you would like to get your NHS French card (Cart Vert) you need find a job. (Or your husband must have it - is acceptable if you botyh live togheter, but is harder)

Is not easy find a job in France without know french. You must learn at least a minimum to maintain a basic conversation or else your probabilities are quite low.... but it depends also where are you going. (Worst or less worst)

In Paris you can find magazines to foreigners (freely found in internet cafes near Pompidour) where is possible to find some international jobs to only english spoken - rare. Another option is go to english schools and try your lucky there.

France has really cheap french courses in their Marie. Not excelent course, but are low cost. My advice is; Go and to Mairie courses and also another one in any school to acquire knowledge quickier.

(job) Try also your lucky through www.monster.co.uk, www.cmonjob.fr, www.yahoo.fr.

there is no health service in France so you cant sign up for it. If you really are going to France you can live there being a citizen of th EU. Surely your "man" will be able to tell you all this.

Apply for a fiancee visa to marry your French boyfriend and apply for citizenship as French so that you can validly reside in France. It is the best way unlike applying for a work visa.
