Boeing has a superior product... the 747-800 will be the newest "Queen of the Skies"... I guess if I had to give the A380 a title it would be "monstroity of the skies" it will not be a successful program, most likely just average like the 767 project... sell several but not many models, unlike the 737 which has endured seemingly forever...

Beoing does not want to top the A380, its TOO BIG... the airlines that fly it will end up loosing frequency because they cant fill it regularly, then they loose passengers because they dont fly often enough and then they realise their mistake... the 747 looks better too!

Considering that the 747 has been in production for quite a while, the new A380 which is in a precaious postion for manufacture right now, and looks to be down for 2 more years, I would rightfully say the 747 still reigns the Queen (not the hangar queen).

We'll have to wait and see, but there are so many commitments by Airbus, and we have 1 touring the country? Think of all the changes airports are going to plan and install. On that alone, unless they roll up the airstairs to the first deck and everybody de-planes(NIGHTMARE FOR EVERYBODY!!)_

That makes me think about what happened a little while ago with passengers being stranded on the ramp for so many hours. DC-9/MD-80 series aircraft have front and rear airstairs. Gee, I wonder what those are for!

Back to the Queen of the skies. If the A380 finally takes a hold onto the American soil, maybe it might fit the bill for the aircraft to be referred to as Queen.

The biggest hurdle the huge new name airplane has is, The 747 is made in AMERICA. Don't thinkfor one minute that Air France is still scratchin it's head over that one. Mark my words.

I beleive I heard or read in the trades that one of the biggest buyer's of Cargo Configured has cancelled it's order for the LARGE MARGE, and placed a order with Boeing for enough freight hauling capacity as the A380 would have.

This aircraft will change things every where it finally goes, but think about this: All Airbus aircraft cockpits are the same. It would seem logical to do that, since type conversion for aircrews would be minimized. Trimming fat for lowering costs.
Now, though, what happens to a A340 aircraft Captain crosses over to a jet with the same cockpit of it's little brother and doesn't recieve enough type rating cross over, or maybe just having one ofthose days. People can die that way. And the A380 carries 550 or so. Think about it. I would love to hear some comments on this one...

Well, since Boeing just announced they are cancelling the 747-400 program, I guess it's the A380. (Boeing is shelving the -400 production until they have the 747-8 completed.)
For now, the 747 is king just because there are so damn many of them.

Really I think the title will be decided many years from now. Boeing has had over 30 years head-start on the A380. Let's reconvene when the market has had some time to decide if the 380 was worth the weight (pun intended).

It's a bit like the Tiger Woods debate 5 years ago. Nicklaus was the best because he had so many more years on Tiger. After Tiger has now a few more years behind him you can see that if he's not the best, he certainly will be in the near future.

As for Boeing going over the A380, it is unlikely, or at least in the foreseeable future. Boeing has said many many times that there is a limited market for the super jumbos and I doubt they will pony up the huge development dollars for a limited market when they are going to have to fund a revitalization of the 737 line (much more lucrative) after the 787 and 747-8.

Well, the 747 is called the Queen of the Skies and I don't think the title can be taken away after having it for so long. The 747 will always be the queen of the skies. The A380 is a great a/c but it's not as elegant, graceful, and beautiful as the 747. The A380 can be the King of the Skies and the 747 can remain the Queen of the Skies. There, problem solved.

I think not only the 747 but the Boeing company will remain the law of the land. Even though Airbus in under the impression bigger is better, I believe Boeing realizes that getting people to where they want to go as quickly and safely as possible is better. And Airbus never get anything done on time. At least Boeing can keep a schedule.

Well 747-400 since the A380 seems a little shaky and more customers have canceled their order for them. Airbus is also on shaky ground so for now I tip my hat at the Boeing product as king.

Boeing - 747-400 is better the Airbus - 380, but not only B-747-400, all the models of Boeing are better than Airbus - 380 and others also.

This means Boeing is the king and Airbus is not his Queen but his Servant OR Slave!!!!!!

i think the 747 will remain king of the skies because i heard that the a380 makes too much noise at the airport, needs bigger taxing zones, and being will eventually come out with the 747 advanced. it's supposed to be bigger than the a380 and previous 747 models. it will also have more high tech things in it, and more recreational and entertainment things like lounges, maybe a bar. it's also going to be more fuel efficient than the a380.

Boeing is the queen of the skies and airbus is king. That is the way I see it. It would be a Royal battle if Boeing tries to top it. Boeing is trying to top it and is planing a 787 that will be make them the top and they will be a king and airbus will be the queen. So it is like a royal battle

the world doesn't have much of a need for something as big as the A380... yet. so for now at least, the boeing 747-400 will rule =]
