A chef works in kitchen of a large restaurant that is sometimes associated with a hotel and is generally a high priced place to eat that requires reservations. That is at the top end, of course there are chefs that work at less prestigious places but it is almost always a restaurant that is known for its excellent food. A chef almost always has several people who work under his direction preparing various side dishes to go with the meals.

Depends on how good he is. If he is a very good chef, he will probablely work in a five star restaurant and of course in a kitchen.
