let me dispell some of the myths around your points-
a) crime was worse even when we all went to our places of worship, the only difference is now you see it whereas before it was concealed and it is being reported more often.
b) The police numbers, while going up, have been aided by street wardens ( in the UK ), who aren't given the same pay as the police but are given diluted powers of arrest.
c)there has always been a lack of respect for others, but coming out and showing used to mean you were something of a rebel, now it has become normal practice. Just as anti-fashion statements become fasion statements.
d) without the materialist society we would not have the things we do now, the baby boomers brought endless amounts of crap so that industry could justify price hikes for modest innovation, now that the baby boomers are retiring our economy is in an upswing, but will be shortlived as the youth of today don't have the tax breraks and disposable incomes of the previous generations.
e) rehabilitation has proven to be more effective than harsher sentences, added to the fact that prisoners are checking into prisons and coming out better criminals after networking inside. That and the the fact that prisons outshine the Ritz Carlton for accommodation
f) Keeping up with the Joneses has alway been there, the only difference now is that some will resort to crime instead of pulling a few extra shifts. Its not just societies downtrodden either, the middle classes are resorting to fraud to pay for lifestyles beyond their reach and means.
G) unemployment figures are down, due to increased government placement schemes and benefits, and as for decent salaries, we've never had it so good! The cost of LIVING has increased, not a cut in salaries.
H) drugs policies are muddled, no one has yet overdosed on weed, however alcohol related diseases have rocketed. selling cocaine these days is normal, only helped by the fact that more than 50% of it comes from Afghanistan. The only good thing that Taliban ever did was to suppress the damned thing.
anywhoo thats your lot!

I)....answer was not listed so I am adding it: The rise in crime, especially in young people, is due to lack of parental supervision and teaching. So many children now are without an adult role-model. This is so crucial! And everybody wonders why so many children end up in custody. Every day I see parents who can't care for their children and can't even afford them. It is so depressing and very easy to fix. If you don't want children and/or can't support them, then take precautions! It's called contraception. Think about their future...if you can't even support yourself, how are you ever going to provide for a child???

I think "C", and my reasons are mostly because of the parental guidance I think kids now a days are getting, or not getting, however you want to put it. I believe most parents are pretty busy just trying to make a living and don`t pay much attention to their kids, but in some cases, parents are not interested in what their kids are up to as long as the cops don`t bring them home or the parents have to go bail them out of jail, or pay for any damages the kids cause, kids are pretty much not taught the difference between right and wrong, and good morals.

F) and G)
Crime exsists because of F) but has been made worse in recent years by G)
I think all of the above are suporting reasons though, except for A. Just because one is religious doesn't make them exempt from crime, not by a long shot.

About 20 - 25 years ago they repealed certain laws and became softer on criminals. As a result respect for law and order and respect for people in general went out the window. we have reverted back to the law of the jungle, toughest wins which is not good for society in general.

Your whole premise is wrong. Crime rates have been stable to declining for years now. Crime rates peaked in the 80s and have been in decline. Some contribute this to the aging of the population as crime tends to be committed by young males.

I didn't realise that a decline in religion was a crime, at least not since the 15th century.

i) the only increase in crime has been in motoring offences. Speed camera use has increased considerably in the last five years and so have convictions.
This does not mean that the crime rate has increased, only the conviction rate.
