Although dandruff appears to be just an itchy, flaky scalp condition, to properly treat it, you need to treat the whole body. Dandruff is a fungal condition (much like tinea, jock itch and thrush) and that's why anti-fungal products such as selsun, nizoral and head&shoulders were created. But they only treat the surface.

What you need to do is check that first, your scalp isn't staying moist all day under a cap or a hat or even a thick ponytail. Then check that you are eating very little sugar, alcohol and processed foods (sugar feeds the organism that causes dandruff).

Make sure your diet is based on fresh vegetables, legumes, whole grains and other high-fibre foods (and if you're a meat eater, lean meats) and as much fresh garlic and lemon juice as you can handle.

Ensure you are drinking your 8 glasses of fresh water daily and that tea and coffee are down to 2 daily (of either, not each).

If you can get hold of pau d'arco (aka taheebo) herb, infuse a good pinch per cup of water, boil it up for 10 minutes then strain and drink. You can drink it cold during the day as your water intake. Aim for 4 cups daily. Excellent anti-fungal and tonic properties.

Take at least 25mg zinc tablet daily after food.

Do this religiously for 2 weeks and you will probably notice dandruff-no-more. Do it for a month and you properly start to clear your body of the excess organisms for good.

It might require some work but instead of just not having dandruff anymore, you'll probably notice other niggles have disappeared too.

Take some serious time to think about what has happened that you feel so depressed and abused. Know the difference between being a considerate and caring person and being a doormat. When you make a choice to do something because someone else needs it or because you don't want to hurt their feelings (you weren't very specific) that choice includes doing it with no strings attached or its a self-serving behavior. Perhaps you do things that you don't want to because you don't know how to say no. So, to treat yourself well, be ready to say no once in a while. Do something special for yourself like planning an outing with your friends, (baseball game, concert, movie, bbq). Treat yourself to a day doing ONLY what you feel like doing. Just don't take it to the extreme, we need more nice people and fewer selfish people.
