Well, there are a few options. The fastest and easiest way would be to use the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train which runs directly from Santa Barbra to Union Station. Bus service from UCSB to the Amtrak station is provided by MTD transit of Santa Barbra. If you prefer to use public transit to LA you can start by taking the Vista bus system to the Ventura/Montalvo Metrolink station and connecting to the metrolink commuter train service which runs during weekday peak hours from Ventura to LA Union station. Lastly, another all day transit option would be to take the Vista bus system from Santa Barbra to Warner center (requires a bus change in Ventura) then from Warner center you can take the MTA orange liine to the North Hollywood Red line subway station and ride the red line train to union station.

Amtrak Pacific Surfliner from State St. Station to Union Station. About 5 trips per day...21 bucks 1 way. Takes about 3 hours...Luggage and bikes OK, No Pets..
I'm trying to keep this as simple as possible....
