I would tell her that it is a book that a lot of people take very seriously and it causes a lot of people to create judgements and prejudaces against one another. I'd tell her it was written thousands of years ago and though the Bible has a few good messages, i.e. leading a good life, caring for your family, etc, it also has a lot of rules and ideas that have been proven wrong and that are simply out of date according to what humans know now.

Dear Friend,

I tell my son stories from the Bible in a way that he will undferstand. It is important for Children to take in knowledge of God, the Bible teaches

Proverbs 1:8 Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching.

Psalm 78:5
He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our forefathers to teach their children,

It is good for children to have a good scriptural upbringing. It teaches them not only to love and respect their fellow man, but also where they came from.

God Bless

"caught" as in the child was misbehaving?

If I found my child reading the bible, I would ask him or her if they understood what they were reading, much like:

Act 8:27 And he rose and went. And there was an Ethiopian, a eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure. He had come to Jerusalem to worship
Act 8:28 and was returning, seated in his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah.
Act 8:29 And the Spirit said to Philip, "Go over and join this chariot."
Act 8:30 So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, "Do you understand what you are reading?"
Act 8:31 And he said, "How can I, unless someone guides me?" And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
(ESV Translation)

Someone must guide persons through the doctrine of the bible. The book is full of hard sayings that are easily misunderstood. Anyone that spends any time in this forum can see ample evidence of this fact.

I would be more happy than you could ever know. I am a born again Christian, but some of my teenagers are not. They still like to indulge in their heathen and sinful lifestyles. To catch them reading the Bible would be a true and wonderful blessing from God.

Why...its ok. What he need is some explaination and if you and your child are of another religion, make use of this chance to read and debate the book against your holybook.

I'll explain him about the authenticity of bible where numerous alterations have taken place in the past.
Further there are lots of versions in the world having one for each fraction of Christianity.
I'll point him the contradictions found in the bible.
And make him aware that it is not something to beleive.

Instead I'll give him a Quran to read and find the truth for himself, since in the Quran itself it is mentioned that Quran is for the whole humanity (but non Muslims beleive it is for Muslims only).

I'd ask him what part he was reading and what he thought of it.

Of course I'd also be shocked out of my mind if I found my 1&¾ year old actually READING the Bible.
