I own Microsoft Word 2003. Whenever I highlight a word, that I want to delete, I'm unable to delete by typing backspace. Any ideas as to why??

Im not sure if this is the problem but see if you have these options:

Tools > Options > General
uncheck both options that have WordPerfect in them.

Tools > Options > Edit
check "Typing Replaces Selection"

It should work. Make sure your backkspace key is working by trying it in regular, unhighlighted words, a letter at a time. If it is working, then use the delete key instead.
