Recently, a few of my friends who are more straightlaced than I am have been expressing concern. I work in a German restaurant, where drinking after work is encouraged(by their culture for the most part; they also want me to spend money.) I get one free beer after work(it's about 17.5 ounces, or half a liter), and then i usually always buy at least one more. Recently I've been buying two or more beers after my initial first beer. All I drink is beer after all, and it's usually over a span of a couple of hours. I also live down the street from the restaurant, so i can just walk home at the end of the night with no worries about driving. Is this an unhealthy consumption of alcohol, and will it effect my health as my friends say, or is this pretty much harmless? I am unable to think of myself as an alcoholic, especially when all I drink is beer. By the way, I work there five days a week, and drink very little other than on the days I work.

it's harmless to have 2 beers a day but more than that can couse you problems. beer is still alcohol. if other people think you have a problem maybe you should relook your drinking habbits. and maybe steer clear of the stuff all together for a week or two. couldn't hurt get a coke insyead when you are at the bar. people will understand even in a german bar. you will feel better in general couse beer is a toxin and is poison technecally, so you will function better and be healthier with out it. good luck.

I think it partly depends on how much you weigh. However, as a 180 lb. (80 kg) male, I think I would be risking becoming alcoholic if I drank that much (one to two liters, 5 days per week)....

I say this because I've seen two co-workers (in the past decade or so), lose good jobs because of often going out with the guys after work. You say that you are "unable to think of yourself as an alcoholic"... keep in mind that one of the first steps of an AA member is to admit to a drinking problem (which is difficult to admit to, for whatever reason).

"Only beer"? Alcohol is alcohol, no matter if it's beer or vodka.

Since your asking for advice, here's mine: the people who say "No problem, go for it, have a good time" don't have to suffer the consequences. Change your job soon, before it's too late, and stick to drinking on Friday or Saturday nights....

Not really...I think. It depends on your size and if you binge drink. I don't think a couple of beers at the end of work will hurt anything more than your figure (as long as it stays at a couple of beers and you are not driving.)
By the way, alcohol is alcohol, even if it's just beer. It gets you buzzed, right?

You are fine. Tell your friends to quit being so nebby. A couple beers a night is really not a big deal, at all!

For men, its no more than one alcoholic serving per day. For females its less than half. You are not out of control, but its not ideal either.

If you think you may have a prroblem, and your friends have already mentioned it to you, than you very well might. You can go to an AA meeting and get more information. It's free to go to.
