I've been browsing the religious section here for some time now, and it amazes me how many people believe that writing a rant here on Yahoo! answers will cause someone to convert their religion.

I have some breaking news people: If someone is browsing this section, it is because the want to speak their own opinion. I haven't seen a single person say "Why thank you so much for the guidance, I was in desperate need of some." No, everybody here already has their own opinion, and seeing some people on the internet agree or disagree with it isn't going to change their minds.

So here is my real question: What could you be doing right now that would be a constructive use of your time? Arguing with people that don't listen is a battle you cannot win. I for one don't enjoy fighting battles that I can't win, so I am going to say goodbye to the religious section.

If you are glad to be rid of me, then congratulations to you. Hopefully the rest of you can understand my reasons.

EDIT: In response to Ask Mr. Religion, I have had an account since 2001. Just because I only created an Answers account the previous day doesn't mean I hadn't been browsing the section. Rather it means that it took me less than 24 hours to realize that no matter what I say, you can't reason with unreasonable people. I came back only because the site reminded me that I needed to choose a best answer. Sorry to those that wish for me to stay, but I stand by my decision. I will be on channels that actually have purpose though, so feel free see me there.

I have never tried to convert anyone. But, have tried to make them understand that everyone believes in different things for a reason, and that God doesn't want us all believing in the same thing, and that we are all one, regardless of what we believe, and that there is NOT just one right path to God, even if that path is no path at all. And that we all have the right to believe anything we choose, and that no one is right and no one is wrong, except when they try to tell others that their religion or whatever is the only right way and everyone else is on the fast track to hell. I don't object to anyone believing in things that I don't believe in, and I don't even object to it, if I think what another person believes is really stupid. It is that other person's right to believe what they will, whether I think it is stupid or not. But they don't have the right to tell anyone else that they are wrong, and that they will have to suffer eternal damnation for believing in the wrong thing. The truth is that God does not care in the least what religion any one has, and God does not even care if someone has no religion at all. God also does not punish anyone, in any way, for not believing a certain thing. The biggest issue for me is that we could be in very serious danger of destroying our entire species, and even this planet, if we don't overcome the separation mindset, and the scarcity mindset. *sm*

I do believe you can get through to some. There are thousands on this site, and last year I had a girl thank me for an answer I gave her to stay away from ouija boards and about the dangers of them. I am on line here to answer questions that some people really want answers to and also to spread the true Gospel of Jesus Christ to those who want to know.
You asked what we could be doing with our time, and I ask you the same thing because you too are on here and you even posted this question!
Best wishes and good bye! Stay safe in your travels!

We could be playing X-Box 360, making a Taco Bell run or sleeping.

I will say, though, that I do believe it is possible for someone to change their views or beliefs based on what they might read here on Y!A, especially if what is listed is Scripture because God promises that His Word will not return void and that His Word is quick and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword. It is impossible to resist the leading and convicting power of the Holy Spirit of God.

What makes you think that by typing our opinion here is actually we are trying to convert people.
Y/A is a channel for us to debate or share our knowledge to the best of understanding not converting people.
We defend defamation against our religion and voice out our approval or diapproval of an issues.
We discuss mundane issues and daily happening things.
Nothing like converting others period!

I'm not here to convert anyone, I'm here to answer a question that I totally know about, or I don't answer at all.

I take long brakes when I see that the questions are too lame, but yeah, sometimes there's someone out there who's asking a question and is really looking for an answer.

It's all about what your purpose is.

Peace.

In respect of arguments of religious beliefs, I concur with you. Otherwise I do it for the sole aim of sharing whatever I have read in religious philosophy with others who are really seeking an answer. I don't see that we can convert anybody on the earth. Everybody has got their own opinions. Sometimes some answers induces interest in them as I have seen from the comments of best answers.

Since you intend saying goodbye to us, I will try to dissuade you from doing so.

There is a difference between religion and spirituality. It is Yahoo's fault that the subjects are clubbed together.

You can get away from the religion that you may be practicing, but you can never be away from your spiritual self.

So whether or not you want to be in these Qs & As, your thirst for getting to know the divine can never be quenched until you get It.

By the way I also want to say goodbye to the religion and start catering to my spiritual needs.

And I need your help. So please stay on.

You have your account since yesterday, no?

I have a mailbox folder with messages from readers here that beg to differ with your "breaking news".

Lots of persons will "act out" in an anonymous forum, esp. when their loved ones are not watching. Behind all that silliness there are those who are looking for answers.

So for those of us, believer and non-believer alike, who try to respond to questions with cogent replies, the reward is these private messages from somone who has enjoyed what was written as an answer, including those that have written to tell me that they have reconsidered their former belief systems.

Good-bye, sir, stop by again sometime.
