High Definition is the next big thing that happened since the invention of the color TV.

Here is a simple comparison of how HD Resolution is measured. Ever changed the screen resolution of your PC?
More information below.

DVDs - 480 lines - (640 x 480)
HD - 720 lines - (1280x720)
- 1080 lines - (1920x1080)

HD is usually measured by the number of vertical lines of resolution that a TV or monitor can display. If that panel reaches 720 lines it's considered HD. Although "true HD" by today's standards should have atleast 1080 lines of resolution.

DVD's only Have 480 vertical lines of resolution so just by looking at that number a basic HD Picture (720) have 50% more vertical lines of resolution thus giving you a lot better picture.

High Definition DVD (HD DVD), proprietary format mainly developed by Toshiba uses more advanced "blue laser" rather than your traditional "red laser" that is used by DVDs. It is a completely different format, it's not a DVD. It can hold more data than DVD's thus a higher resolution movie can be stored in it. And also because of that you cannot play HD DVDs on regular DVD players.

Oh just an info right now there are 2 formats out there that can provide HD quality video. HD DVD and Blue Ray, none of them has the edge on the market, and you cannot play them unless you get each others specific players.

(I provided you a basic explantion of HD, there are more things to explain behind this technology like, "What's is the difference of 1080i and 1080p?", but this should give you a basic knowledge about it)

specific there's a distinction. I own between the terrific upconverting Blu Ray gamers on the industry. My LG great Blu participant does a great job upconverting prevalent DVD's. I even have certainly tricked some friends into thinking they have been observing hi def. Then I put in a Blu Ray or an HD DVD purely whilst they concept the image could not get any extra advantageous. they are blown away as there's a huge distinction. the better your video reveal is the bigger the version would be. A 1080p image on a greater 1080p video reveal is the terrific of the terrific and specific you may tell.
