Joel Osteen is a "feel good" preacher, not a "feel God" preacher. His messages are good and uplifting, but have very little to do with scripture. However, I agree that religion is a sham and churches are yet another aspect of the free enterprise system.

The Joel Osteen's of the world and their “Word of Faith” prosperity gospel is moving people away from the biblical messages in favor of "feel-good, junk-food" doctrine. The whole “Word of Faith”, a.k.a.“Health and Wealth”, movement is classified as a cult by those who have studied the doctrines.
From a Jamie Gangel MSNBC interview with Osteen:
"A college dropout who has never been to seminary school, there is no fire and brimstone in his church. If the message sounds simple and upbeat, that's just the way he wants it.
The Christian-based, non-denominational congregation draws a remarkable mix of races, and his televised self-help sermons are number one in Nielsen ratings and broadcast all over the world. And if that's not enough, his book, "Your Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at Your Full Potential," has topped the New York Times best-seller list, selling 1.5 million copies.
[Osteen has] developed his own style - sermons are strictly optimistic and address practical, everyday issues, like time management. His critics say it is all too simplistic, that Joel is part of a new trend called prosperity gospel. "

From Osteen's own mouth:
"You've got to speak it out. Your words have creative power. One of the primary ways we release our faith is through our words. There is a divine connection between you declaring God's favor and seeing God's favor manifested in your life. And some of you are doing your best to please the Lord. You are living a holy consecrated life, but you're not really experiencing God's supernatural favor. And it's simply because you're not declaring it. You've got to give life to your faith by speaking it out."
(Audio clip from Bible Answer-Man Broadcast, April 26, 2004, ).
"Early in our marriage, Victoria and I were out walking through our neighborhood one day when we came upon a beautiful new home in the final stages of construction… Victoria was excited. She turned around, looked back at the home, and said, 'Joel, one day we're going to live in a beautiful home just like that!…' Over the next several months, she kept speaking words of faith and victory, and she finally talked me into it. She convinced me that we could live in an elegant home like the one we saw. I got rid of my limited thinking and I started agreeing with her. I started believing that somehow, some way, God could bring it to pass. We kept on believing it, seeing it, and speaking it."
(Osteen, Your Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at Your Full Potential, Chapter One, )."
Just telling your flock something to make them feel good and ignoring the rest of God's revelations turns God into a puppet and the bible a collection of fortune-cookie messages. Joel is perpetuating the same cult gospel his father, John Osteen, began.

I believe he is Pentecostal. Here is a website that talks about him in the Pentecostal section. When you get to the page on this website, click on "false religion" and then go to the Pentecostal one and you will find him right along with Benny Hinn.

Word of Faith leaders preach about getting more money and worldly things and gratification of the flesh and very little about living a holy life. They purposely leave out vital topics like Sin & Repentance, the Holy Spirit & the Gifts of the Holy Spirit as being used by the church today, Hell & the Lake of Fire, the Blood of Christ and teachings on the End Times because they are not true Christian pastors but church growth advocates, preaching to appeal to the flesh and not wanting to offend the world with what the Bible teaches.
Beware of the Word of Faith ministers who repackage the Law of Attraction teaching and spew blasphemies, preachers who preach the Gospel of Prosperity when they should be preaching the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, church leaders who mix paganism with Christianity, and those altering the word of God and propagating doctrines of demons.
The Word of Faith Movement is a cult:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are 2 kinds of people on the earth: people who love God and people who don't. Those who love God will be drawn to His Son Jesus Christ and accept him as their Lord and Saviour. Those who do not love God will not love His Son and accept Him.
1 John 2:23
Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.
These who do not love God are not good people but His enemies (Romans 5:10) and He has already prepared a place for them (Hell). Many say they love God but they are liars. How can we prove they are liars? God sent His Son to die for us, but these reject Him (Jesus) and the truth about Him.
God's Plan of Salvation for Us
We cannot be united to God or enter Heaven without accepting the blood of Jesus Christ as the payment for our sins. Praise God for His great sacrifice!
God created us out of love (Jeremiah 31:3) and He doesn't want us to be separated from Him because of our sins. He loves us so much that He sacrificed His own Son Jesus Christ to pay for our sins so we could have a relationship with Him and spend eternity with Him in His kingdom (John 3:16).
Jesus came to pay for our sins with His blood (Matthew 26:28) because without the shedding of blood there would be no forgiveness of sins (Hebrews 9:22), and no other blood besides the blood of the Son of God was sufficient to pay for our sins. We are all sinners and we cannot be redeemed and saved unless we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and His shed blood as payment for our sins.
After a believer dies, they go to paradise to be with Christ (Luke 23:43). If a person dies without accepting Christ as their Lord and Saviour, they would not be forgiven by God. After death, the demons claim them and drag them to a terrible place called Hades (Acts 2:31, Luke 10:15). All those in Hades will be later thrown into the eternal lake of fire along with Satan, his hosts and all who refuse the true and only way of salvation offered in the Lord Jesus Christ. Burning in the everlasting lake of fire is known as the “second death” (Revelation 20:6, 13-15).
God was made flesh as Jesus Christ of Nazareth to make the sacrifice on the cross for the sins of all who would have faith in the Lord Jesus as their Saviour. This faith cleanses the sins of all believers, redeems and unites us to God and allows us to enter and live forever in God's Kingdom. Becoming flesh to suffer an agonizing death on a cross shows the extent of love God has for us, and He wants us to choose Him by accepting the atonement He made for our sins. The Lord Jesus is the only way, the truth and the life (John 14:6).
The truth about Jesus Christ can be found only in the word of God which is the Holy Bible. Verse 16 of chapter 3 of the first book of Timothy speaks about Jesus:
“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.” (1 Timothy 3:16)
Verse 9-11 of chapter 2 of the book of Philippians tells us that Jesus Christ is Lord over all:
“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9-11)
False doctrines claim that there are several paths to God. Scripture/the word of God tells us that there is only one way and that is through Jesus Christ. Verse 6 of Chapter 14 of the book of John says:
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)
Verse 36 of chapter 3 of the book of John reveals:
"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him" (John 3:36).
If you sincerely say this prayer, your sins will be washed away, you will be saved from eternal torment and inherit the Kingdom of God:
"Dear Jesus,
I am a sinner.
I repent of my sins.
Please forgive me and save me by your shed blood;
come into my heart.
I want to receive you as my own personal Lord and Savior.
Amen"
After sincerely saying this prayer, the Holy Spirit will abide within you and begin to lead you to all truth, empower and equip you and help you along life's journey. Keep your faith growing by reading and studying the word, remain in a repentant and humble spirit and always have Almighty God as first priority in your life.
As long as you have faith in the Lord Jesus as your Saviour you are saved. Through your faith in Christ as your Saviour the Holy Spirit will guide you in repenting of your sins and doing the will of God. If you lose this faith, you lose Salvation.
