The general standard of restaurants here has improved no end last few years. Therefore, there's quite a good selection nowadays.

Ok, La Seine, as above in an earlier answer, is well worth a visit even though the standard has dropped slightly since it's heyday a few years back. Still, it remains best French food in Guangzhou.

For a river view in opulent surroundings, the old White Swan Hotel still cannot be beaten. Pricey but consistenly good.

North-East China food is the most similar to British cuisine and European fare generally so my favourite place is Lao Bei Fang (老北方) on Hengfu Road (恒副路) near Garden Hotel.

Taste of India on Taojin Road (淘金路) is best Indian in GZ.

Banana Leaf in World Trade Centre (世贸中心) straight opposite Garden Hotel is best Thai food here. Also, there are several great restaurants up on the 5/6 floors of World Trade Centre next to Banana Leaf which are all great and well worth a visit. Just the sort of places to take relatives.

Oh yes, how could I have almost forgotton the best lamb kebabs around? Also Hengfu Road, a few doors along from New Century Supermarket (世界联华超市)moving away from Taojin Road (淘金路). 5 Yuan each but wow.

It is out of town (and I don't know exactly how to get you there), but there is a great buffet restaurant next to a zoological park. It has great Cantonese food and surrounds a glass-enclosed area with white tiger family. From this, you should be able to ask a local person where it is.
