I've seen them advertised on the Golf Channel and wonder if they actually work or are they a well advertised waste of money.Your comments would be appreciated.

Just resold one which I bought. As to it's effectiveness as an aid, I have to confess that I'm not sure. It does show if you are hitting the ball correctly on the downswing, for example, if it clicks before you reach the bottom of the swing, it means you are hitting early, which in actuality, would result in a weak or fat shot. However, on the back swing I found it not so indicative and had problems with the strength setting but maybe that says more about me than the aid. The DVD with it is fine and the instructions are clear. Might I suggest you buy a SH, one rather than paying full price. That way you can reduce your outlay and sell on with not much of a cost.

I need to give it a big two thumbs up!

I read the other answers, and have more to add. I have tried most of the aids, and for a club type it is one of my favorites.

The main reason is it does a lot, and you can swing it almost anywhere.

Here is what you can get with it:
- Correct and practice on your tempo
- Learn and practice the correct load and release positions
- Learn and practice a lag (or late) release
- Practice balance
- Learn and correct swing plane

I can also highly endorse David Ledbetter's swing theory and training. I really think he is a good choice for anyone looking to improve their swing mechanics.

What I don't like about the swing setter: It can force you to swing to hard.

We all swing different, kind of like how we all walk differently. For me I have a very controlled game, and if I swing to fast, I lose some control.

However, I was able to "fix" my swing setter by placing a foam ring around the shaft, between the ball halves. This creates a lower resistance with the magnets, and allows me to hear, and use the ball popping at a little slower swing speed.

Overall, I can highly recommend it. I believe in Ledbetter's swing theories, and I really think the swing setter allows you to practice several facets of the game in a very confined space.

Fore!

The only thing it did for me was, it helped with the positioning of my hands while gripping the club, as for the swing and striking of the ball, I am still crap!

You propose the "Jimmy Hat" holder? Why do you imagine a wrapped condom matches completely in there? Levis and the rubber safe practices businesses have slightly deal happening the aspect.
