I have joint pain in the knee and ankle of only my left leg. I'm only 19, but I'm guessing the pain is similar to arthritis? It just feels like inflammation... kind of throbby. And I don't know if it makes a difference, but my left shoe also wears out way quicker than my right one. Could anything be wrong?

Just to clarify... I've never had any injuries and the pain is also in my ankle. In fact, it's more intense in my ankle than in my knee. The pain isn't constant, it's kind of come and gone since puberty.

mandie, realize that your body, as with everyone else's, is NOT perfect, and it sounds as though your right leg may be slightly longer than your left. As a result, your left leg is compensating, and the wear on your shoe is your big indicator of this. MY suggestion would be to use shoe inserts to absorb the shock that each step delivers to your joints where you're experiencing pain. If this persists, you should speak to your doctor about it.
I just read the previous entry, and want to assure you NOT to panic and think you tore anything without an MRI. ONE step at a time. try the inserts first, and let the MD diagnose. :)

I'm not sure exactly what kind of pains you are talking about, but i'm a human kinetics university student, and one thing that is sometimes found in children is that one leg is slightly longer than another, causing them to walk in a way that puts stress on joints and muscles. Since she is active, this might be something to look in to. I really hope you find a way to help your daughter, best wishes. ** To the note regarding Osgood-Schlatter disease (OSD): Symptoms including pain at rest, thigh pain, or very severe pain that wakes kids from sleep are NOT associated with with this disease.

Many things, sweetie. Number one disease: Tendonitis, inflammation in around the patella, kneecap. Did you fall, hit your knee in any possible way?
Make a Dr.'s appoinment and have an MRI of your left knee, which is an internal scan of your muscles in that area. Also, an X-ray, to see if you have any broken, dislocated bones.

yep, get it checked, you are well on your way to crippling arthritus because you are walking unevenly and you likely have torn your meniscus in your knee. i did that too, now im in pain all the time. if you have really good medical insurance you might be able to get a joint replacement, i had arthriscopic surgery but it didnt help much.

I would definitely recommend that you see your dr about this. They can help you figure out whether or not this is arthritis.
I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis when I was 19 years old thanks to injuries to my knees, the left in particular.
