Dear Eighties,
Yes that is written in the Bible, but it also says as children you should obey your mother and father for your days shall be prolonged on the earth. Also there are other ways of dissaplining a child other than a spanking or even abuse. I have found that taking the things that a child enjoys the most away for a short period of time seems to help such as, xbox, gamecube, tv,etc. Sometime as parents we tend to forget that our children need to make mistakes to understand consiquences of their actions. All we need to do is have a little more patience with our kids.

I agree with a part of it. I don't know where it comes from.
We should never spoil the child. But the rod is no answer. There are ways to discipline. And in a good way.
Using a rod may be better than some punishments given to children, sometimes.

seem on the youngsters immediately who don't get spanked, and evaluate them to the youngsters from even 20-30 years in the past. Spanking replaced into basic back then, and the youngsters have been a lot greater nicely-behaved and ended up greater to blame. Now they seem to be a set of untamed and spoiled brats. some childrens won't hear to holiday and the only way you may lead them to hear is by way of spanking them. in case you're disciplining them appropriate, they could be nicely-behaved sufficient to be previous even getting spanked anymore by way of the time they have been even old sufficient to call the police. i'm sorry, yet i'm not gonna enable my childrens run over me! The Bible has on no account been incorrect previously while it is composed of guidence, and to whoever published concerning the animal sacrifices or however, that replaced into the old testomony. there's a clean covenant in place! D'oh!

Nope, it says " spare the rod and hate the child" and it means any form of discipline related to correction. If your children are not corrected they will grow up without direction and probably not know right from wrong even if they care to. God is not the author of confusion. On the other hand there's a difference between punishment and abuse. I think that's pretty clear to everyone.

Yes it does, but I believe the "rod" refers to the rod of correction--as in Prov.22:15--"Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him." Spare the rod=fail to punish.

God would never condone harming a child.

And yes spare the rod spoil the child, I have seen this in my own family, 7 kids my parents gave no discipline to the last 2 and they are scrubs now, and God will give you a little swat if you get to far out of line, just like a good parent!

If, as you admit, the Bible is a book written by man, you deduce that some parts--those that are horrendous--cannot be true. But why do you believe that the other parts--the love your neighbor parts, etc.--are true? If any of it is untrue then all of it is questionable, and there is nothing to indicate that any one part is more sound than any other.

I don't think you should beat the child OR spoil them!
I think you should give the kid healthy food and snacks and give them treats if they do something right!

I mean some people son't know how much to punish the child and some people don't know how good they should be to the child for the good of them!

The Bible is unambiguous.

Psalms 137:9: Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

Leviticus says that Levite children who refuse to follow Levite traditions should be stoned to death. Sounds crazy to me.
