dictionary.com is my favorite easy answer to this question. It can be accessed and kept open while you need it. It also provides a thesaurus. I use it often, mostly for propper spelling or usage of a word.

google is an excellent place to find definitions. but if it is just for a word then go to dictionary.com.

the best site for this is urban dictionary... but be careful because some of the results on some of the slang words you put in can be pretty full on
