the speedometer on my 98 stang is screwed.... most of the times it says i am doing 80....other times, 0....and every now and then it works correctly....what is the cause of this?

Check your VSS gear for wear. You didn't specify what engine/transmission combo you have, so here's a chart that might help:

This problem is usually caused by the vss. ( vehicle speed sensor) It is an electrical signal generator that plugs into the rear extension housing of the trasmission. All you have to do is undo 1 bolt and 1 connector to change it. It is located on the driver's side of the trans, about six inches forward from the driveshaft.
