There are 2 feral cats in my neighborhood which have killed my rabbits, terrorize my finches and canaries, and have killed my favorite neighborhood woodpecker. Under Nevada Law, am I permitted to kill them? They are on my property destroying my property, and they do not belong to anyone in particular. What is the law regarding this?

When I cleaned up the carcas, these cats aren't eating them! They merely rip them up for fun and leave it everywhere. There is no meat eaten off of the bodies. My neighbors I have found out have been feeding them, so they arent hungry. I talked to my neighbor and she said she has spaid and neutered them. But that STILL doesn't solve my problem. They are still killing my animals!!

Go to your animal control facility and rent a feral cat trap...
trap them and have them released somewhere else.
A lot of facilities have feral cat fix programs to help with overpopulation and problem cats
Do not kill a cat, that's cruel.

Get your own cats, and make them the guardians of your property.
I have fourteen free-range rabbits, two free-range guinea pigs, and one free-range Cayuga drake; my four cats watch over and protect them from marauding ferals.
What I am surprised about, however, is your behavior and attitude regarding the ferals. Ferals don't just 'happen'; they are the result of bad pet ownership, such as lack of neutering/spaying, feeding, and housing. I captured my ferals, got them vaccinated and then, neutered/spayed them...and I saw an improvement in the numbers of ferals that I was observing in my community. Instead of being a '*****', why don't you get involved and make a difference?! I live in another state, but even here, there are laws against animal abandonment and cruelty. Find out who's causing the feral cat problem and then make some phone calls or send out some letters...basically, TAKE ACTION!!! Because even if you could kill those ferals who have been terrorizing your animals, there will be more to come if you don't deal with the underlying problem.
Be proactive, NOT reactive!!!

Since calling your local animal shelter probably won't do any good I would suggest going there and asking to borrow some live traps. Tell them your problem and they shouldn't have a problem with you caching the cats. When you do get them in the traps take both the cat and the trap back to the shelter. Let them take care of the cats.

These cats can easily be prevented from any more problems simply by getting them fixed and feeding them. They are surviving the only way they know how and killing them is not a good/humane solution.
I care for many feral colonies and they are not a nuisance just because they are well managed and cared for. They don't kill birds like you would think because they have food provided.
Go to Alley Cat Allies and look for a organization for your area to ask for help.

I had a problem similar to this. My local animal control had live traps that we could rent for a $5 deposit. I caught the problem animals and took them to the shelter. I think they were probably destroyed because they looked like they were in really bad shape. If your local animal control does not have live traps, I have found that they are only around $20 at most hardware stores.

The problem with feral cats is, the irresponsible people who keep letting them out will keep doing so -- so once you kill these ones, more will move in on their territory.
Are your animals running loose? The problem with the outdoors is that there are always dangers, and it's never wise to leave animals unprotected out there. I am sure you are doing a good job, though, it's just tough. We have coyotes here in Arizona in some parts and they would kill all my pets if I didnt keep them inside.

But wild cats are supposed to eat birds, rabbits and such........
If one killed my pet baby squirrel I'd be pretty pissed off but I wouldn't kill the cat.....because thats what feral cats are suppposed to do. Survive. Even if a hawk swooped down and snatched him, I would be so sad....but that's nature and they are only doing what they are supposed to do.
Please call a humane society to have them spaid, neuterd and relocated. Don't use anything like a bear claw trap or rat poison...just call the humane society.
Besides even if you kill the cats what will stop other cats from comming in your yard? The humane society will have them fixed to fix the cat population in your area.
PS: Do you have mountain lions in your area? And Hawks, eagles...etc.

contact the police or your town animal control officer.
You should probably use a humane trap and try to catch them .
You cant normally use poison baits because other animals may get hold of them. Shooting in a suburban neighborhood is not allowed either .

Wow... you want revenge on animals? I must say that's pretty sick - if you want to become a cat killer of ferals or not, you sir deserve the same....
What are you going to solve by killing more animals? Just make your local ASPCA aware of the issue and ask them what THEY can do about it or where they can REFER you.

u need to talk to you the game warden in your countly. peronally, i would put some traps for the cats( u can usuallu get them from the no kill shelters). we had a VERY bad feral cat problem in sout texas in the town where i lived an it was SO bad they said shoot them. cruel, but cats reproduce like rabbitts (haha)
