My girlfriend wasn't allowed to watch the Simpsons growing up. It worked reallly well; she's bought every season pretty much the instant it came out on DVD.
I'm always astounded at people forbidding the Simpsons on religious grounds. Sure, the Lovejoys aren't exactly drawn in the most favorable light, but Ned Flanders has to be the most sympathetic character in the entire series - even Homer is smart enough to know that. The satire is focused on Big Organized Religion, not God (other than the fact that He has five fingers, unlike the ordinary four).

Ha in fact I have two discs right on top of my computer. My brother has all the Seasons so I borrow them. Oh I'm Xian by the way. I like the Simpsons, and when they mock religion, etc I just look at the meaning. If they have a valid point, like the corruptions within the church, I'll grant them the point. If they say something like Jesus being a myth or God being useless or something, I just ignore it. I hear it from Atheists every day, the Simpsons wont shock me.
"If the Bible has taught us nothing else... and it hasn't.... its that girls should stick to girls sports"
"What if we picked the wrong religion, and each week we're just making God madder and madder"
Greatness.

I'm 21, but when I was like 8 years old and The Simpsons was popular, my Mom didn't let me and my brothers watch it cuz Bart is so disrespectful-so no not cuz of religious beliefs, but b/c of how he talked to his parents and how he's just a kid, but is supposed to be the smart one, but the Father (homer) is portrayed so negatively. My mOm didn't want us to watch it when we were so young we could possibly be influenced by its ways, which i think was the best thing back then.....
...other than that, i'm not sure-maybe people who are really christian don't like to watch it cuz Ned Flanders is always portrayed as some crazy dumb religious church-going person?

My aunt is a Baptist, and her church seems to be pretty laid back -- they sing contemporary music and lots of people come to service in jeans -- but she is so uptight about what her kids watch on television. She definitely wouldn't let them watch The Simpsons, because she won't even let them watch things like Rugrats, Spongebob, Dora the Explorer, or Fairly Oddparents. Its INSANE!!

Actually, some churches strongly encourage their members to refrain from watching certain TV shows because of questionable content being exposed to young minds incapable of asking questions...
I watch anything I want to, most of it is foreign cinema, eye-candy sci-fi, bible epics of the 40s/50s/60s, a couple of TV series

I'm 32 so I'm not forbidden to watch anything. But there are shows that I don't like, and I choose not to watch. I don't like the shows that are really risque, or that use a lot of cursing and sexual talk. But that's my own choice to not watch them. They just bother me.
