because it is pressed against clothing all day, making it curly

It's a different kind of hair there. It has nothing to do with being crunched into clothing. If you walked around naked for years it would still be curly. The type of hair is determined by the hair follicle. I mean you sleep on your hair and doesn't change your hair permanently does it? It's up to the follicles what kind of hair grows.

The space is very limited for the hair to grow straight. The underwear also limits more. That's why the pubic hair is curly.
