If Joseph Smith prophesized about things that never came true, (which he did such as “I prophecy in the name of the Lord God of Israel, unless the United States redress the wrongs committed upon the Saints in the state of Missouri and punish the crimes committed by her officers that in a few years the government will be utterly overthrown and wasted, and there will not be so much as a potsherd left for their wickedness in permitting the murder of men, women and children, and the wholesale plunder and extermination of thousands of her citizens to go unpunished” (History of the Church, Vol. 5, page 394), and the bible says, “When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him." Deuteronomy 18:20-22, KJV, then how can a Mormon who claims to believe in the bible also believe in any of the teachings of Joseph Smith?

You already asked this question a few mins earlier. Repeating questions will get you a spam warning....

Actually, it is happening now. Anyone who has a clue can look around to see this prophecy in action.

Also note that the US Govt was overthrown in many states within 20 years of this prophecy (know your history?) which resulted in a 'War of the States" that left millions dead.

The government was overthrown in 2000 when the people's choice president was replaced by an appointed President.. It has been overthrown many times before via assassination, delegation of authority, internal wars, moral degeneracy...so in effect, what we have now is not a democratic America but a semi-totalitarian autocracy.

The US gov't is wasted away, there are very few men of noble idealism or greatness. Most bureaucrats simply make themselves bidden to those with the most money. They do NOT serve the people.

The moral decadence of the people in the United States is but a reflection of that of their elected servants: Check this out as a little factoid...

NBA or NFL?????

36 have been accused of spousal abuse
7 have been arrested for fraud
19 have been accused of writing bad checks
17 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
3 have done time for assault
71, repeat 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
4 have been arrested on drug-related charges
8 have been arrested for shoplifting
21 currently are defendants in lawsuits. and
84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year
17 have been accused of soliciting sex from minors

Can you guess which organization this is? Give up yet?

It's the 535 members of the United States Congress. The same group of legislators that crank out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us in line.

I rest my case in the belief that this is what Joseph Smith was prophesizing....

The only "prophecies" that are official, are the ones in the Doctrine & Covenants. History of the church is not always accurate in what Joseph Smith might have actually said.

I believe the teachings of Joseph Smith because he was a prophet of God. No one but a true prophet could have brought the Book of Mormon to the world.

Many of what people like to call his "false prophecies" were either not prophecies, but more like commands from God, or it was highly questionable if he said it. If it's not in the D&C, then it's probably one of those two.

Most people I know think the government is wasted. Not too many people think highly of the government any more.
It depends on your definition of wasted.
