A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (MD or DO) who has completed specialized training in treating people with psychiatric disorders, including training in prescribing psychopharmacological medications. In the present medical situation in the US, with the restrictions of insurance companies, most psychiatrists see patients only to prescribe and monitor medications.
"Counselors" or "therapists" have a wide variety of training and educational requirements and licensures. A few only have a BA/BS degree, but are not licensed. Licensed counselors and therapists must have a minimum of a Masters degree, such as a MSW, an MA or MS, to become licensed. Psychologists often work in psychotherapy as well, and have a doctorate (PhD or PsyD) in clinical psychology as well as a license to practice. In a few states, psychologists who have specialized coursework in psychopharmacology can prescribe psychiatric medications under the supervision of a psychiatrist. Therapists and counselors work with people to help them to learn strategies to deal with their dysfunctional moods, behaviors, and thoughts. Many work in association with psychiatrists who prescribe medications.
Both therapists/counselors and psychiatrists work with people who have difficulties in their functioning due to mental disorders, dysfunctional behaviors, intrusive thoughts, and other such problems. Psychiatrists tend only to see people who are more severely impaired, who need to take medications to deal with their disorders. Therapists and counselors can see people with relationship issues, family problems, and behavioral issues who do not need medications as well as more serious mental disorders such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

A counselor or psychologist has a degree in psychology (usually an M.S. or PhD.); a psychiatrist is a medical doctor who also has training in psychology. A psychologist has more training in psychology than a psychiatrist (as a rule) but cannot write prescriptions. A psychiatrist is a fully qualified M.D., who can write prescriptions, but often does not have as much training in psychology; it's sort of a trade-off. As a rule, they treat many of the same people, although those who must have some of the heftier psycho-active drugs usually have to be seen by a psychiatrist. It mostly just depends on the situation.

A psychiatrist is a doctor who treats persons with chemical disorders of the brain.He/She has the same general background in basic medicine as any other doctor, that is a MD.Like other doctors they have to go through the same internship as all doctors have to.Then they have to go through residency and upon completion have to pass a state exam.If they pass the state exam then they qualify to practice as a psychiatrist.A counselor is a person who usually has a Masters degree in psychology and sometimes a PhD.A psychiatrist works with persons with serious brain disorders such as schizophrenia, depression, and bipolar disorder. Also he/she can prescribe medicine where a counselor cannot.Counselors usually work with people by helping them modify behavior to improve the quality of their lives. They can be in schools,in vocational rehabilitation services and family therapy. They are skilled both in single and group therapy like psychiatrists they also have to pass internship and pass a state exam before they can practice

Making Love is completely different and you'll know the difference. If kissing is goin on, especially deep passionate kissing, it is probably "making love". If eye contact is made, if the person talks to you to ask you if you are ok...What about afterwards, any cuddling, kisses, intimate conversations? Do you stay all night then? These are things you have to look at. Is this person a part of your everyday life, does he or she call/txt just to see how your day is goin. If no to all of these n the calls are in the middle of the night, then it is most likely just some casual sex. I've had both and can def. tell the difference.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor with specialized traing. Counselors have different credentials and possibly none at all. You need to check if the counselor is licensed or certified and what education they have and what specialization. It doesn't mean that counselors are not good; both my mother and stepfather were certified addictions counselors. You just need to look into it a little further.

Counsellor have a psychology or social work degree its all depend on area they are working. If comes to mental health they have psychology degree or master if they call them self psychologist. If only cousellor they can also have only diploma in couselling.
Psychiatrist are one who does MBBS then they further study psychology due to requirement and their interest in mental health and get further qualification in this area. They can prescribe drugs/medication where counsellor cannot because they do not have clinical or pharmacological knowledge. spartan
