Hello --

My cat is peeing on the furniture, and it's driving me crazy. I think it's something about the fabric of the couch, because she also likes to go on bed sheets and clothes. She's an older cat, and I know older cats have issues, but I can't live not knowing if I'm sitting in pee all day. Is there any solution? Do I have to give her away or something? Please help!

Has the cat seen a vet? Most often when cats are peeing on things they do so because they are uncomfortable--often due to a urinary tract infection or irritation. If you haven't already, please have your cat examined by a vet and request that they do a urinalysis to check for blood, bacteria and crystals in her urine. Urinary tract infections can be treated, and then you won't have to worry about sitting in cat pee. Since she is older, I would also suggest having blood work done to check her kidney function.

Be sure to clean the spots that she peed in with an enzymatic cleaner such as Nature's Miracle, Petastic, Kids 'n Pets, etc. Otherwise she will be attracted back to that same spot. You can use a black light to find the areas where she has peed--the cat urine will glow under black light.

I think you would know if you were sitting in pee all day! It would make your butt wet.

I would take her to the vet and rule out a health issue. Why would you give her away cause she has a problem?? Did your parents do that to you??

you didnt say how old your cat is.. there could be an issue for her doing that, maybe kidney problems or bladder problems, if I was you I would take her to the vet and see if there isnt something that is medically wrong with her. If not then maybe the vet can help you out.

i to had a cat that used to do that, even after she was fixed. it would drive me crazy,, i think it had to do with the fact that i used to leave her alone a lot when she was a kitten. and she was rebelling against me but what got me is she wouldn't not pee on the chair she used to sleep on until i sat on it. crazy i unfortunately had to bring her back to the humane society, i loved her to death but i couldn't let my furniture be ruined any more. gl on what you do.
